Not true.Cypress Hill went down ok last year.Dizzee,Sway,Lethal Bizzle have gone down well in the past.It's all about booking the RIGHT rap acts.Obviously if you book some flash in the pan wonder the crowd won't appreciate him.

Yes it is true. I'm well aware that R&L has had successful rap/rnb acts, I'm not sure how "Glasto is moe likely to be successful booking rap/rnb acts due to the types of music they have" equates to "R&L has never had succesful rap/rnb acts" but there you go.

You're second point is correct, you do need the right act, but my point is that R&L has to be more selective regarding finding the right act that Glasto because, due to the styles and make-up of the two festivals, Glasto generally has less resistance to rap/rnb.

Yeah but it doesn't disprove the the theory. If I'd have said R&L can't have any success putting on rap acts then it would have but I didn't say that. I said Glasto is "more likely to be successful at having rap/rnb acts than R&L". R&L having some success in the past doesn't disprove that, it can still mean that Glasto is more likely to have success.

With DJ Shadow, it'll give a place for the chavs to go when everywhere else is playing Punk - and there will be a lot of them. That's not to dismiss DJ Shadow either - he's a visionary and arguably the finest and most important Hip Hop artist/producer since Curtis Mantronik - but the fact he has the letters 'DJ' at the front of 'Shadow' is enough allure for the chavs to think they'll expect some sort of one-dimensional Grime set. Put him on the NME stage and he'll get the same size crowd that Serj Tankian got last year - just a different type of audience. I'd go and see him but I would hate being in the crowd.

One year I was at the Lock Up stage

Last year I was in the Dance stage about to watch Health on the saturday, and I was met by a couple of people who were confused for completely opposite reasons.

The first little lad wandered up to me, tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if he was in the Lock Up stage and I told him, "Dance stage today - Lock Up was yesterday and tomorrow". He was asking me if I knew anything about Health and I said, "yeah they're a Noise Rock band from L.A" - he paused for a second and said, "not much of that sort of music around now is there?" - poor dear.

The second little shit that came up to me was a some little lad clad in Lonsdale shellsuit armour and he asked me what type of music Health made as well - "8-bit Techno, yeah?" - and I said "they're a Noise Rock band from L.A" - and he looked at me as if to say, "Noise... Rock?". He promptly f**ked off as soon as the amplifiers blew his fragile little mind to smithereens whenever Health started.

The confusion on these kids' faces was priceless. DJ Shadow would have the same sort of reaction - all the people going expecting to see him "biggin' up the West Side massive" will be shocked when they discover him cutting up a Tangerine Dream Moog solo song over a James Brown beat. Same sort of "what the f**k is this?" reaction.

Rock died the moment Iron Maiden were allowed to headline the festival in my opinion!! Not a single good song to thier name, how on earth they are being rumoured every year is beyond me!!

Just look at the charts my friend - Rihanna/ Katy Perry/ Pink/ Lady Gaga/ Beyonce - these are the acts that sell big and draw in big crowds!! Until reading can attract acts like this the festival will always be somewhat of a laughing stock to the rest of the festival circuit! Stuck in the past!

And for the record - Im a vegatarian so I wont be eating the burgers at V you absolute buffoon!!

I can honestly say that I don't think half the people in the Dance tent could have prepared themselves for Health. It was one of the funniest things I've seen at a gig. People didn't know whether to clap or not. There was no audience reaction or interaction with the music - everybody just sort of stood there with their mouths open in shock.

I don't even think Festival Republic had prepared themselves for it - it was a bit of an odd booking for sure. I think it's because they did a split 7" with Crystal Castles (or something) and so were immediately regarded as a Dance act... which is odd because Health are really, very not a Dance act. Health are a Dance act in the same way Nirvana are an R&B act just because somebody decided to mash-up 'Smells like Teen Spirit' with 'Bootylicious'.
