Primal Scream

The source on those three headliners sounds good and bands of that size make sense. Good news for me too because it removes the top of the Other Stage from my clash equations.

I saw Primal Scream at 2005. Quite possibly the least enjoyable gig I've seen of all time. Dreadful voice. Wouldn't advise for anyone who's not a fan, even if they are dragging out their one "classic" album.

Feels like I've seen the Chems at Glasto 27 times already. And it seems to have been really muddy at all of them. Always a good bet for that slot though.

I never understand the hype around The Libertines. They did some good songs, some lievely gigs, split up over a girl, Doherty acted like a twonk, Barrat did some medicocre stuff and then they got back together for a pile of cash from Reading to ensure they didn't become completely irrelevant.

This isn't to say that lots of people wouldn't enjoy all three of these headliners and I think it suggests a good haul for the festival all round this year.

Very good source - gets lots of insider stuff because of the job he does (can't say what) but usually for events run by the big promoters e.g. he told me about Pulp at Wireless weeks before it was announced and got most of the Isle of Wight announcements right before they were public. However one of his longstanding contacts is now working helping the Glastonbury team negotiate with the larger acts, which is where his info comes from. He reckons Primal Scream and the Chems are 99% certain to happen and the Libs is 50/50.

Haha, to put their story down to that, is like cutting harry potter down to there was a wizard. They didn't split up over a girl, I can't see how Doherty acted like a twonk, Barat did do some mediocre (infact awful) stuff but not all of it, and they'd planned to get back together then, at least a year before asked by R&L. Of course the money helped though, I'm not that naive.

In all fairness I'd cut Harry Potter down to lad goes to boarding school, becomes wizard, gets ginger friend, gets jailbait friend, fights evil bloke, additional book bound to be written for the money.

I was told at the time that all of the aggro between them (stealing stuffs from flats etc.) was started over a girl. If you don't think Pete Doherty has acted like a twonk over the last few years I doubt I'll be able to convince you in a few words on a forum. The amount of court time alone makes him look like an idiot. The nature of the "relationship" with Kate Moss even more so. Pleased you agree on Dirty Pretty Things. As I say, I'm sure they would have got back together because they'd reached the point of irrelevance. The money certainly helped; the cost of smack's gone up...

It's already been pointed out that Eavis has no problem with what happened in 2005. I'll be elsewhere when Libertines are on. Overrated rubbish in my eyes.

As I said earlier, it didn't really feel it to me. I am (nearly typed 'was' then... not listened to them since Leeds Fest) a massive Libs fan, they've been my favourite living band since Joe Strummer died but it just didn't feel particularly emotional to me. Fun yes, special... not really.

Just got my tickets for the first Manchester Apollo Screamadelica gig through the post - didn't realise this was another late night one like the Brixton gigs, anyone know what the line-up is? It's 9pm - 2am so I'm guessing it isn't just going to be a greatest hits set followed by the album.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
