i don't know why some of you are so offended by atheists

if you told me the bogie man was real, but you have no proof either way, am i supposed to believe in it just because you tell me it's real? and if i don't believe it, it's ok for me to say "it's not real."

then why can't i say, as a matter of fact, that god isn't real? why should i have the slightest belief in something that you have no proof for?

and back to the original discussion about his holiness, do you really think he is intentionally a bad person? That maybe he just made a mistake in how he handle the cases of kiddy fiddling, I still maintain other religions and organisations have it going on and we don't know for certain how they cover it up so again lets stop making out like the pope and the church are the only people in the world to cover up child abuse, there are bad eggs in every organisation.]

On condoms as said before, if you follow the churches teachings on sex before marriage, and sex for procreation purposes then they are not needed. Those who put it about are at a higher risk of getting an STI, it stands to reason.

On homosexuality, lots of religions have this stance, it goes back to two previous points, the catholic church and pope are not the only ones and should not be consider the worst culprits because they are not. and the second goes back to how the church holds sex purely to bare children, since a man and a man can't bare children, no boom boom! It doesn't make sense within the teachings of the church. Before you lot start calling me homophobe and the like, its not my feelings on the issue just how I see the church shouldn't be condemned for their views.

The explanation of there being some sort of God for me, always goes back to a teacher at my school, if you break open an old school watch with all the lil parts and that, and have all the parts in your hand and keep shaking, how long til it suddenly by luck puts it together again? Now consider how much more complex the world, the universe or even just humans are compared to this watch? It all came together through accident essentially? All the right conditions for life suddenly manifested themselves? (This does however leave open the idea of other beings in the universe seeding us together, which would be some sort of God anyway.)

I haven't got a problem with you not believing in God, your free to say that, its when people start saying people of any religion are dumb, and are to ignorant to question what they have been told, maybe they did question and found that the excistance of a God makes the most sense to them. Ok. As a Cardinal he made sure that all alligations of child molestation were covered up. The Condom issue, he had the chance to move the Catholic church into the 21st century, he chose not to, fair enough with the STI arguement but if someone on the developing world who has no disease and is married but still does not use contraception yet has 10 children because of this that they simply cannot afford to feed is this a good thing?

I don't agree that it's fair enough with the STI argument. I think the Vatican is hopelessly out ot touch with reality on the subject. Purely on evolutionary terms it's entirely normal for young men to try it on with as many women as possible. That's how evolution in fact works. And in order for young men to do that safely, contraception has to be used. Some people might be happy to wait years to get married and then have to sex because the church says so, great - no-one is stopping them doing that. However, the opposite does not apply. The church tell people they are going to burn in hell for all eternity if they have sex with a condom. So they don't, and diseases get spread.

As with all these things, I always ask the question "Who benefits?". Who does in fact benefit from lots of Catholics have lots more Catholics?

When the Catholic Church comes out and says that using condoms increases the cases of AIDS when the WHO have data and evidence to prove that they don't, and we are talking about the millions of people dying, you can take your f**king goalposts and personal attacks and shove them.
