That was really quite great. Every year the organisation gets just a little bit better, the details ironed out (Tipi tent, crowding at Garden Stage etc). And the music and the people are still just as good.

I chatted to a lot of strangers, met a few (but not enough!) of you, ate some fine food, got a lift to Salisbury at 5am from the nicest taxi driver in southern England (Derek at Onyx Private Hire / Willow Taxis - 01980 652 227; a good friend of EOTR). Oh and:

*discovered some good new (or new to me) bands: The Mountains and the Trees, Cyrus Gabrysch & The Zizaniques, Phospherescent, Woodpigeon, Allo Darlin', Freelance Whales.

* Caught up with some old favourites: Wilco's hard-edged set, John D grinning all the way through the Mountain Goats, and mass-singalongs to No Children and This Year; New Pornographers (even though they weren't great, they were still good); The Low Anthem doing their thing to a hushed and reverential audience, after the Felice Brothers bounced around the stage like madmen; Caribou pulling off the surprise of the festival ("I quite like his albums, but I thought he'd be boring live, but that was amazing!").

etc.

Thanks to everyone on stage, backstage and in the crowd and campsites for making it such a good time :)

EOTR just keeps getting better, the Tipi tent was far better this year, and after initial disappointment I got quite used to the new location for the cider bus. Highlights for me included Wolf People, Citay, the Wilderness of Manitoba on the piano stage, Monotonix, Wintersleep, the mysterious second surprise band in the Tipi on Friday night (even those usually in the know didn't seem able to find out who they were), London Snorkelling Team. But as ever it's the people who make festivals what they are, from the great crowd of Happy Campers to random conversations with fellow punters and artists alike, all I can say is bring on the early bird tickets!

I was so pleased with the new Tipi Tent - both the sound and layout were excellent. Was anyone else watching Deer Tick on the Sunday night when the power died though? Not sure if they got it back up and working in time for Horse Feathers. Didn't get to hear 'City of Sin' but it actually made the set more memorable as we were treated to hits such as 'Silent Night' and 'Happy Birthday' (and half of a Phosphorescent cover!) with the band playing in the crowd. That was one of my main highlights of the festival, along with:

- Wolf Parade (how amazing were they?!)

- Moddi

- The Felice Brothers

- Ólof Arnalds

- Caitlin Rose

- The Mountains & The Trees

- Modest Mouse

- Voice of The Seven Thunders

- Caribou

But the majority of the bands that I saw were good at the very least. the food was great as usual by the way, even if I did kind of miss the Scandinavian Kitchen!

Only stuck to a small itinery this year and they all came up trumps.Felice Brothers because they can do no wrong in my eyes, Elliot Brood for their enthusiasm,Black Mountain for giving me a break from banjos (although I like them !!) Unthanks for the clog dancing, Low Anthem for staying the whole weekend and their Panto set,The Brakes for not swearing :lol: and all the other artists who played ukulele !!!

Many thanks to the EOTR team for a memorable 4 days. I'm so worn out that my planned detour to watch The Felice Brothers in Bristol tonight did not happen,anyway they did a Tippi session last nite which was the reason I am so worn out !!! Roll on next year.

PS I had the honour of testing the hot cider and recieving the first pint,I am blessed.

PPS I was stopped by security because they spotted a jar of jam in my bag, thankfully they didn't check out the campsite shop :P

For those of you who need to book holidays in advance, it might be worth pointing out that EOTR is a week earlier next year, 2-4 September (maybe because of school holidays?). Bit of a bummer really as it will presumably now clash with Moseley and Offset, each of which I have warmed up with in the last 2 years. However, it does mean it's a week less to wait ..........

Just wanted to add my thanks to everyone involved in this year's festival, easily the best festival out there by a mile.

Highlights for me were...

- The Daredevil Christopher Wright

- Plants and Animals

- The Felice Brothers (especially their tipi set)

- Iron & Wine

- The Low Anthem

- Leif Vollebekk

- Horse Feathers

- Moddi

- Woodpigeon

- The Mountains & The Trees

- FINALLY catching a Wilderness of Manitoba set in the woods after hearing about how great they were from so many people!

- meeting so many lovely people!

AND now I come home to find that The Low Anthem are supporting Iron & Wine at the Union Chapel tomorrow night...just when I thought my week couldn't get any better! :D

Can't wait for EotR next year!

echo all of the above, my first and what a brilliant brilliant weekend i have had (i'm poor on superlatives).

at some stage i might do a boring review type thing for folk to ignore, but for now just want to say thanks to:

a) ljsawyer, geofelgi and GTG (possibly others) who post about EOTR on the Latitude site, which is what convinced me to come.

B) the boys at the front around me for each of wolf parade, black mountain and wilco who actually jumped about a bit and made it fun.

c) absolutely everyone else!

That was another wonderful festival; I've only been twice but the improvements this year were blatently obvious the minute I wandered over to the tipi tent to discover that it was a lot lot bigger; didn't get to see anything in the tipi or the local last year so it was great to take advantage of the extra room.

Favourite bands

The Mountain Goats. I think that was just an amazing set. I love the mountain goats anyway, but they were really special.

Yo La Tengo. Despite the fact that I'd jokingly said earlier in the day that "I hope they open with Nuclear war" and then them actually doing it, I thought they were excellent.

Iron and Wine - I've been told that Iron and Wine has been known to rope in a band and be awful, but he was stunning on his own. I thought it might be hard to win over the crowd with the rain coming on, but by the end of 'Flightless Bird' he'd achieved it.

Others - Moddi (twice, once in the woods with a spectacular cover of Bridges and Balloons), The Antlers, Monotonix (being charged at by a bearded man with a drum is quite scary), Adam Green, CW Stoneking, Wolf Parade, Allo Darlin and Darren Hayman. It was nice to see Bill from Allo Darlin' in the healing fields on Friday with his kid and have him say hello to me. Little things like that make the festival.

Anyway, yeah, will be back next year for sure.

How about a word for the stewards. I stewarded this year and I know I was appreciated by at least one group of people as one of them was kind enough to say so when he recognised me off-duty! We sacrifice quite a number of festival hours and do our best to keep all the regular punters informed and happy. Thanks to those other stewards I worked with and to Steve and Phil (you know who you are!) and to Dave Lyn Howie (?) the mad drunken Scotsman that kept me and my colleague entertained at the main (road) entrance on Saturday night. This was my 4th year running at the festival, but first stewarding due to lack of funds. Let's hope I'm a little wealthier next year. Absolutely loved the weekend, as it would seem, did everybody else there.

I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one who thought The Mountains And The Trees was absolutely lovely. In fact, the tipi was host to some of my best moments this year. Allo Darlin' on the Thursday night - you couldn't help but bounce and smile. Ben Ottewell - a brilliant set, and his kids dancing on the stage for most of the time just highlighted what a wonderful, relaxed family festival EOTR is. The Felice Brothers on Sunday night - never really given them much of my time, and I didn't see them on the Garden stage, but what a great way to finish the festival!! Absolutely rocking, and brilliant the way they got everyone up on stage!

Away from there, I loved Olof Arnalds. Iron & Wine was breathtaking. Phosphorescent, Wilco, Leif Vollebeck and Edwyn Collins were all brilliant too. And what I caught of the Low Anthem was pretty special. Shame I missed most of it (Olof Arnalds was great though).

Highlight of the weekend though was The Wilderness Of Manitoba at the piano stage late on Sunday night. I'm sure anyone who was there will agree that that was one of the most touching experiences of live music they've ever had. EOTR at it's absolute best!

A top top festival, but I wouldn't expect anything else!

We were told about the Felice Bros in the Tipi earlier in the day, and were gutted to miss it (had to leave). I've quite liked them for awhile but the Garden Stage set really helped me 'make sense' of them. Had their penultimate album on repeat today!

Top things:

Low Anthem (AMAZING!)

Edwyn Collins

Felice Bros

MONOTONIX! (And I usually hate that sort of thing)

Phosphorescent

Jarvis & Hawleys technical problems at the start of the DJ set.

London Snorkelling Team

Wolf Parade

People I was miidly disappointed with after looking forward to them:

Dylan Leblanc

Phil Selway

Allo Darling (Friday)

I love EOTR and desperately hope I can make next year (personal situation might not allow it). Got some great posters this time too after getting a Jacknife one at Glastonbury.

I just hope and prey they never make it any bigger, and that just one headliner next year will really catch my imagination, as that's all I personally felt was missing for me.

And glad that they caught the robbing bastards robbing from tents on Thursday night! The one next to us had people go in it and one near us was robbed... but security said they had been caught).
