Well we got exactly what we deserved out of the game last night - nothing. United played very well in defence and stifled us in midfield. They certainly got a lucky break on their goal but Park took it brilliantly. We on the other hand had a single Nasri shot, and that was our only note worthy effort. Too many players just didn't work hard enough yesterday. Massively disappointing.

No. The 'smart' view (whatever that is...) is that there is a big lack of quality in the playing department (and injuries to key players) that is the biggest issue. Certainly a much bigger issue that the quality of the managerial team.

Hmmm ... I'd say that Avram's record says different, but it's your funeral. :P

Whatever else might be said of 'Big Sam', he does have a good record of getting better out of players than others.

With a brand of football that simply wouldn't be tolerated at The Boleyn. Many, including me, would sooner see us relegated.

I get that, but while it's unlikely to be seen at WHU if he did end up there, it would be interesting to see what he achieved if he did have 'top' players in a squad he managed.

If Blackburn now start to bomb without him in charge, then I'd be quite interested to see how he did with managing a team with much better players ... tho much like you, I'm not sure I'd like to find that out with him managing my team.

But from a manager's point of view it's no good trying to get a team to play attractive football if that results in relegation - that ends up branding the manager as a failure.

You are joking?

Mowbray took over at West Brom from Bryan Robson when they had been relegated. In his first season (with mostly Robson's team) he got them to the Play Off Final. After defeat, he totally rebuilt the squad and got them promoted to the top flight as Champions. The next season they got relegated. I can't remember who it was against but for one of their last games when they already were relegated the Baggies supporters thought Mowbray was such a failure that they all wore Mowbray masks and chanted his name throughout.

He also did a superb job at Hibs.

The only people who described Mowbray as a failure regarding his time at West Brom were idiots no nothings.

You're not really getting what I'm saying. While there's lots of admire about what he did at West Brom, it was constantly stated that it's all very well trying to play attractive football, but it's no good when that's at the expense of results.

Stated by whom? Morons I expect. How does anyone know the alternative would have been any more successful? Plenty of newly promoted sides and stayed up playing good football. Plenty of teams have gone down playing shite football.

It's a cheap line spouted by imbeciles and taken in by mugs.

While there's no guarantee that playing in a tighter manner will get better results, the very facts of what managers choose to do gets to show that they (in the majority, if not all) believe that it will.

So if you're right, then most managers are imbecilles. Which rather spoils your argument here.

Managers play to their team's strengths.

except (as an example) Moybray. Everyone told him he'd defo go down doing what he was doing. And they went down.

Had he played things tighter - something the players were more than capable of doing - there was the chance of a different outcome. No guarantees of course - the only guarantee came from those saying he'd go down if he didn't change.

    • Ok, ok, I have done it! Not because of limitless upvoats but to support the Efestivals site.
    • She was/is 100% in the mix, but I don't know specific timings and how it relates to that interview. They've clearly gone after her, again.   It could be read in a number of ways - she was in negotiations at that point, she was talking about BST (and he's interpreted it, as we have, as Glastonbury). Who knows
    • So sad to see the news that John Douglas of the Trashcan Sinatras has died. They only released their latest album last week and it is wonderful.  So underrated and a member of such a great long running band that have meant so much to me over the last 40 years. https://trashcansinatras.com/blogs/news/john-douglas-1963-2026
    • listening to jamie east's podcast earlier he said that he'd heard fender is confirmed, and that as of 2 weeks ago Madonna hadn't been approached.
    • which would make that Graham Norton interview nonsense .... although obviously things change
