Erm, about this spray paint in the eyes and twatting with maglites malarky... If someone was to do that then it would absolutely be an offence (if reported) ranging from Common Assault (twatting someone with your fist from your sleeping bag), through ABH (twatting someone with a maglite and cracking their head), through to GBH (spraying someone in the face with paint and blinding them. The first carries a maximum of 2 years, and ABH and GBH both have a maximum of 7 years. The only defence is to plead self defence (or defence of another if you are sharing your sleeping bag) in this case, and assuming they didn't hit you first you can refer to R v Bird, which basically says you don't have to have been hit first to claim self defence if you are acting immediately to a credible threat to your person.

Boring I know when all I would do is want to punch someone, hard, if they tried to nick from me, but I thought I would be boring before someone gets too carried away :)

yep your right....YAWN.

If someone came into your tent..and you were positive they were performing ill intent..its perfectly reasonalble to give them a kicking. Everyone would(should) be the same and i doubt they would be able to prove that you have touched them...i mean..whos gonna witness it! all your m8's?

if your there to steal, you got to imagine that you may get caught by the right type of person..which means they expect it at some point!

I think most of the problems in 2008 were down to it being easy to get tickets as the festival only sold out at the last minute.

With most tickets selling out quickly in October, I'd like to think the thieving scum weren't that organised to get there hands on them for this year.

They were certainly there in force last year when ticket sales were roughly in line with this year, so sorry, that logic is going to let you down.

The thieves will be out in force. They will be particularly prevalent from 10pm Wed through to about 7am Thurs and same time Thurs through Fri. They consider it working, a way to pay for their week.

Thieves work in groups. DO NOT employ violence if you encounter them, use your voice and nothing more. I can assure you that the one that you take on will be joined by AT LEAST 3 to 6 within 30 seconds. If you encounter a thief, don't let them out of your site, leave your tent and keep shouting, keep an eye on them, wake your neighbours, do not let them rip anyone else off around you. As soon as there is more than just you versus any number they will be gone, I can assure you. If you are lucky your actions will result in their being caught, however this is extremely unlikely.

Again: do not try to violently deal with people, in any situation. This is likely to go badly.

One of our group had the door to her tent slashed last year and cash taken. She didn't have much on her as she was waiting to get paid but it was still upsetting.

Never had any trouble myself in the night or otherwise. Although I admit I am very VERY messy so if they come into my tent they would struggle to find anything!

i keep all valuables (cash, card, phone) on me or in my sleeping bag when i'm in it.

It would be horrrific to have some scuz meister come into our tent to pilfer, truly terrifying but....it would be far wore for them as i would capture them and do absolutely hideous things to them

it's just thieves/opportunists

a field full of people, sleeping passed out/drunk etc

some see it as a gold mine

I'm sure there are some innocent 'oops wrong tent' i.e. ruined people going tot he wrong tent

saw some guy get in my mates tent while we were all sitting round the gazebo - could have been an honest mistake, the guy was ruined - this was at reading anyway

    • I think it happened a week ago. Btw, Ela Minus looks like a great addition for the opening free day now. Anyone been to this venue? Is there like a closed place or they just put an open air stage somewhere in the park?
    • I see the weekend tickets have sold out. When did that happen? I recall seeing that Friday day tickets had all gone but was surprised to see today that weekend ones had too.
    • I thought some time back that I could see Get Down Services getting a slot in Woodsies
    • Tickets on sale when I'm abroad (I'm assuming this sells out in minutes), and the actual dates could not be worse for me work-wise. Still going to try to get tickets, of course, but god damn!
    • I'm personally confident that Slipknot will be one of the headliners next year (no insider info just lines up with them likely releasing an album soon)    Then there's the headliner that's never played the festival before which the bookers have alluded to so that's one of Blink, Foos, NIN, Nickelback and possibly Pearl Jam or even Bon Jovi    The third band I also think will be a new headliner who are being bumped up so Deftones, Offspring, Paramore Etc.    I'd love Slipknot, Foos and Paramore but realistically i'd go with Slipknot, Blink and Deftones
