Scottish Notes

Guest Rosstitute

I started a topic like this last year in 'questions' I ended up taking a few Scottish notes and picking up some English when I reached the border on the NA bus.

To tell the truth no vendor realy looked, thou it depends who they are I suppose. Never had any trouble using Scottish or English notes.

I took £300 in Scottish money last year, came home with nothing :) the only time I remember anyone looking at me funny was some guy at the Brothers bar who seemed to be some sort of supervisor, he looked and then jokingly said "f**k it, it's not going in my pocket anyway!"

Saying that, this year I'll be collecting my money in Engerland this time. Just in case :D

Mm, but it's education to little benefit, in the south of England. Even if it's 10 minutes with each of the bar staff, it's 10 man hours for 60 of them (and I'm sure there's lots more than 60 WBC staff), to deal with one or two Scottish banknotes that might get seen at the bar all weekend.

I wouldn't risk it.

As it happens, I've only ever had hassle using Scottish notes in London once (In the godawful World's End, Camden), however anywhere else south of Preston it's a pain in the arse.

If you want to lift cash out now to put aside for Glastonbury, the Barclays ATMs in Central Station and St Vincent St dish out English cash.

I love the arguments you get about bank notes. On the whole no shop or person HAS to accept any bank note (BoE, BoS, Clidedale, NI or who ever the other one is) if they dont want to.

You only have to accept legal tender when settling debts allready created - and even then as has been pointed out scott notes arnt legal tender anywhere.

Another posisble reason that stalls won't like accepting Scottish notes could be their banking arrangements:

When I used to work for a particular German, discount supermarket we could only bank money in bundles of £1000 and all the notes had to be the same i.e. 50 english £20 or 100 english £10 or 100 Scottish £10 and as we got maybe one scottish note a week they spent a long time in the safe or we used to spend them on items we needed to buy on expenses like stamps to get them out of the system.

    • It can take around 30-45 mins to walk from the arena back to the transport hub with the crowds, depending on density. Allow even longer in poor conditions. I don't think you'd need to leave Linkin Park early though, you have at least an hour and 20 minutes to walk to transportation. I certainly wouldn't leave early in your shoes, knowing I can just walk to the airport if needs be (2 mile walk and another 30 - 45 min walk depending on your walking speed and conditions.) Maybe just don't linger too long for the toilet / food after Linkin Park have finished.  It will definitely make sense and all just fall into place on the night, don't worry too much and have a great time. The very worst that can happen is a little extra walking to the Airport Skylink bus stop, as those Skylink busses are 100% 24 hour. 🙂  GFS, ICON and ECMWF are ALL in agreement on the latest runs.... After a mildly moist Weds and Thurs, high Pressure building from Friday... Lets just hope they continue to agree... ☀️☀️☀️
