Car tape deck help

Go to various charity shops and pick up some bargain tapes especially acts that are appearing this year. You have the means to listen to the original warped and twisty ( well nearly.....not quite crackly LP quality) sound of U2,Stevie Wonder,The Stranglers,Jackson Browne, Ray Davies and many more. Quirky, retro and fun all at the same time!

As suggested above fix what you have for a couple of reasons:

- it will work - why spend more cash and consume more of the earth's resources if you have something that will do the job?

- A wired connection will always be an order of magnitude better than an FM transmitter - the new ones are better than the first generation transmitters that came out (which were UTTER shit) but if you value sound quality keep your tape adapter. It's ironic that in newer cars with CD only and no wired connection for an Aux In you'll have worse sound than in an older car with a tape deck! (assuming the rest of the stereo is the same quality)

I might check it out some time, I know what you mean about stations having playlists, I like XFM because new music filters through to me, and they don't play much popshite but if I'm driving a lot it's not rare to hear the same song three or four times in a day.

You can get lucky with Radio 2 late in the evening (ditto Radio 1). But if you turn it on arbitrarily you're likely to get crap. I certainly wouldn't want it on during the breakfast show, which is when I'll be driving to Glastonbury.

I kinda envy you for having a cassette deck. Those cassettes with the wires hanging out are pretty good compared to iTrips, which are at the mercy of whatever broadcasts interfere with it as you pass through different areas.

I think I'll burn a few CDRs for the trip, but I'd rather have the full choice from my iPod.

    • Tbf that happened to me in 2022 so not a one off. 40 euros to drive down 3 streets. I'd have done a runner but the reason for getting the taxi in the first place is cos I couldn't walk no more.
