A now seemingly useless official announcement at 3pm apparently.

Have I ever once said that?

However, he's someone that would win us matches we wouldn't otherwise win. There's no other player in the squad that will do that (outside of Heskey, on the basis that we find it hard to score without him).

Will we win the WC if Walcott is left behind? Defo not.

Would be win the WC with him included? Still unlikely, but it gives us a small chance.

Here's betting that before England are on the plane home people will be strongly thinking that Pat has messed up by tyakin Lennon and SWP before him (if that's what is the case - not certain yet).

Going by the few minutes of SSN and BBC News I saw when munching my lunch, while there's these rumours flying around, the people that are reporting tham are a VERY long way from being certain about them - they express far more confidence about their accuracy for a story over transfers that never had anything behind them.

So while what's been reported might well be true, it might not be either.

He aint going Neil... Time to deal with it :)

Glad to see people with no knowledge whatsoever thinking they know much more than the people who are putting these stories forward while expressing they're far from confident that they're accurate.

The stories might be right, they might not be - so say the people reporting these stories. And then there's Oaf. ;lol:

The best line so far on the BBC Live Text:

Transfer deadline day ain't got nothing on this. It's carnage.

I find it funny everyone is moaning about the way it is being done... You will get rumour and leaks whichever way you do it...

Besides my live tv suggestion above :)

while i do agree with you that until the official announcement we dont really know

the bbc think differently

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/w...010/8713742.stm

when you actually see their reporters talk about the stuff they're reporting, their words are a hell of a lot less confident than the words are in articles like that - same on SSN too.

I've seen the most obviously made-up transfer talk given a hell of a lot more credibility than they were giving these WC squad reports.

That doesn't mean they're wrong of course, just that they're very far from sure that they're right.

1359: On BBC Radio 5 live and elsewhere, they are playfully speculating that the delay to the official England squad announcement may be because Postman Pat cannot get through to one of the players. He did say he'd tell the seven unlucky ones before making it public, so there might be some truth in that.

    • Pressure will be shifted to Israel, but don't think anything is going to happen this side of the election.
    • It's encouraging news, but Israel's withdrawal from Gaza will very much depend on how credible Hamas's commitment to completely disarm is.   In my view they are right to be skeptical.
    • Now we’ll see if Israel are actually capable of winding their necks in    I doubt it
    • Policing is very relaxed, provided you stay within your lines I'd say. I don't think we're supposed to have an event shelter as well as a tent next to our van, but we've done it without issue for years. It's a happy vibe up there.
    • Do feel a lot more cynical about the Mercury now. Given the awards show is now an arena event, there's clearly a pressure on them to nominate mainstream acts in order to sell tickets for it. And not saying that Jade and Knats don't deserve to be nominated (haven't listened to either), but the fact the event is in Newcastle can't have nothing to do with that... (not to mention Fender winning last year, which frankly was a joke)    Hard not to agree with this: https://www.clashmusic.com/features/this-years-mercury-prize-is-a-pivot-towards-the-mainstream/
