Brazil - always a threat

Italy - ageing but more than capable

Germany - weakened squad, no decent keeper, no Ballack, but they're f**king Germany. They're bound to annoy everyone and get to the final

Holland - shite defence but some world class attackers

Undecided on Argentina, mainly because Maradona is such a clown. They've got the talent - let's hope the fat druggy cheat can coach it out of them!

I can't see France making an impact. But I said that 4 years ago.

There is a big difference between believing we COULD, and predicting we WON'T.

I don't know that I'll be proved wrong, I'm merely predicting that I won't be.

IF we don't win it, I think the posts we write will go like this. See if you can guess who will say what:

I blame Euro '96 for the stupid optimism of some - that was England at their exceptional best, with the next nearest occasion probably being WC '86 in my lifetime. Even in the 'glory year' (semi-finals ) of '90 England were shit, even after the team told the manager they were doing his job cos he was shit.

England might get a tasty result against a decent team, but that'll probably be the only match that they'll perform at anything like the level that we know they can do as players. Outside of that, there's a very high chance that they'll play shit (even if they get a result from it).

England play shit because England are shit. We're still stuck in the 60's in football terms.

The bile directed at SBR by the media was disgusting and very wrong. The only players who talk or talked badly of him were bitter twats.

But that aside, I doubt we'd have won. We always raise our game for the Germans, like we don't manage to do most of the time for other teams.

So we were 'shit' - like we are now apparently - and probably had 'no chance' of winning it, yet we were a lottery away from contesting the final.

Yet we've got no chance this year. Because we're 'shit'.
