The Pyramid

This ties in to the threads about the football, and the threads complaining about some act or other in the pyramid lineup not being to their tastes.

I'm interested in hearing from those of you who come to Glastonbury and spend most of your time at the Pyramid stage. Maybe dashing away for 10 minutes to grab a bite to eat?

Do you exist?

Is that really what you do?

Do your friends do the same?

Do you ever feel the urge to explore?

Any other comments?

I was there for quite a lot of Saturday last year because of the line up, but as much as I wanted to see the artists, it bothered the hell out of me!

Luckily I'm not too fussed about this years, so can happily bimble around at my leisure.

Peace x

I don't like leaving the Pyramid stage and losing my place. So i take a nice chair & leave it in a spot. There are usually 4 -6 of us so we can keep our place all weekend. The Pyramid has all the best bands, and it has the biggest loudest sweetest sound system & nice big screens, there really is no point in going anywhere else.

Ray Davies through to Stevie Wonder this year will easily be the longest time I've spent at the Pyramid stage in one go (although I might dash off to catch a bit of I Am Kloot as I know a mate is a big fan and people are raving about them on here :P).

I think staying for two bands at most would be my previous longest in one sitting, and probably three bands would be the most I've seen on any one day.

....so long story short, I'm not one of those people, and don't know anyone who is!

I barely go to the Pyramid stage myself but I can't believe people are getting so royal and elitist! If someone pays 200 quid and wants to stay at the Pyramid stage then thats for them! Its not to say they dont do other stuff after the bands and on the Wednesday and Thurday!

Think I once spent 4 or 5 hours there on a Saturday afternoon a few years back, but only because it happened to be a good run of bands for me. I certainly don't protect a spot, but it can be nice to know you ain't moving for a while, especially with the aching I've normally got in my legs by the Friday.

I'm rarely at the front of any gigs, I like/require a bit of space.

I often take a camp chair, but the great thing about them is that they fold away, can easily be moved, and don't need to be deployed. The use of them as terrotorial markers gets on my nerves, but I'd enjoy the festival a lot less without mine at least for an hour or 2 each day.

The Sunday is the worst in my opinion for the camping, but each to their own, I guess its non-hardcore locals grabbing a taster.

While there is nothing like the spectacle of seeing a headliner on the pyramid stage, it freaks me out a bit.

I can get a bit claustrophobic. Got dragged towards the front for the Killers. I completely flipped out and spent 45 minutes getting out, finally helped by a kind soul in Orbital esque headgear. Dodged a bullet though as I saw Iggy and then Africa Express.

I'll still go to watch bands on it, but I don't like going in very far and get a bit nervous if there's a huge crowd

I spent quite a bit of Sunday there - once i had got there collapsed in a heap, layed in the sun listening to music, managed to wander to nearest food tent and back - woke up in time for Blur. 4 nights of little/no sleep caught up on me (yes i feel old).

In the very wee hours of Sunday morning last year, we were making our way back from some delight or other across the Pyramid field, strolled up the barrier to take it all in and got talking to this young Scottish security bloke, very nice fella.

He told us that on the Saturday morning, about 4-5 middle aged men and women had come to the front of the stage about 10am, took out chairs, parked themselves right down at the front and stayed there for the rest of the day seemingly oblivious to the acts that were actually on, taking out sandwiches and drinks etc. rarely moving from their chairs if at all. Then, as it was coming up to Springsteen, they got up, folded up their chairs and had prime place, then wandered off after his set.

I was stunned.

08 glasto our group had a main stage saturday out of about 15 of us the 6 girls that were with us buggered off to watch duffy i think but other than that we were there all day , chairs , flag , beer cooler we were well back from the second set of speakers up the hill .. and had a cracking day :P our group will probably be doing the same this year on the sunday ..

and in 07 after wandering around the site weds and thurs the rain and mud made it hard work to get round the site so we spent fri - sunday at the main stage from start to finish and again had a great time

i cant see the problem with people wanting to stay at the main stage all day if thats what they want to do , is it causing you problems ? ffs :P

    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
