The Bees

Completely chuffed to bits about this - I can thoroughly recommend them for anyone wanting a bit of feel-good summer tunes.

I'm hoping they're close to finishing their new album so I get to hear some new stuff - they were fantastic the last time they played (Jazzworld in 2007). I believe this will be the 10th time I've seen them which would make them the band I've seen more than any other.

Anyone else a fan?

Saw them before in the worst venue in the world, the Village in Dublin. Good gig though. Not familiar with their newer stuff

Biggest ever Glastonbury regret:

Discovering The Bees when they were playing the then New Bands Tent in 2004, then leaving half way through their tremendous set to get a decent spot for............ Oasis. Fail.

Local band for me, seen them many a time from a local pub act through to festival headliners.

Be good to see them again, perfect sunny afternoon fodder :P

ACE! If that's a true indication of the line-up then I won't have to move between them and Tunng on Sunday.

:P:P:P

Quality band. I wasn't a fan of their last album but Sunday afternoon's a great slot for them. I suspect I shall be there for them

I know nothing about this band.

Would anyone be kind enough to throw up some recommended tracks, and tell me what albums I should start off with?

Much obliged.

The first album (Sunshine Hit Me) is the most critically acclaimed - made by the two main guys (Paul Butler and Aaron Fletcher) in a shed. It's a lot funkier and chilled than the later two.

Free The Bees was their first album as a full band (there are about 7/8 of them from this point onwards) was a lot more successful in terms of sales, and is my favourite of their 3 albums, probably because they were plugging it to death the first few times I saw them. Some VERY catchy songs on that one (including Chicken Payback - their most famous track which is IMHO their worst! :P )

Octopus is their latest album which they were promoting last time they played Glastonbury in 2007. It's a lot like Free The Bees, a few belters on there.

Spotify the following:

From Sunshine Hit Me:

Punchbag

Angry Man

Binnel Bay

A Minha Menina

From Free The Bees:

Wash In The Rain

No Atmosphere

The Russian (a tremendous 5 minute + instrumental - love it)

Go Karts

One Glass of Water

From Octopus:

Who Cares What The Question Is?

Love In The Harbour

Left Foot Stepdown

Got To Let Go

Listening Man

They're terrific to watch - always swapping instruments etc. For example, the last time I saw them in 2008, Paul Butler (usually the lead vocalist) played rhythm guitar, lead guitar, trumpet, saxophone, bass guitar, triangle, organ, keyboard, drums. Not all at once, obviously, but it's still rather impressive.

Give them a go mate - I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Cheers for that mate, I'll give them a go tonight.

They are one of those bands where I have seen the name quite a lot, but somehow have never actually listened to anything they have done.

I'll be there, I used to listen to free the bees all the time but have been ignoring them recently. That is still a quality album though, every track is great.

Will be good in an afternoon set in the sun, I just hope there isn't a clash with Rolf!
