Such a shame that we don't have them. Would have been such an incredible headliner and so much stronger (and in many ways more to their "roots") than Blink-182 would have been. Wish they had announced their reunion sooner, or next year? ah well i'm sure they'll tour the UK eventually :P

Agreed.

Soundgarden get the integrity vote but not the popular vote. In an ideal world, there's nothing better than running around in a circle to Jesus Christ Pose or Heretic but in reality, kids want to bounce up and down whilst listening to inane penis jokes. It's a sad fact but hey, you have to give something to do to keep them away from mephedrone, the bastards.

Let's face it, Reading/Leeds festival promoters don't want to face the risk of having kids go "who?" at their headliners. Although they'd be f**ked if they actually got The Who.

what are you talkiing about you moron. they headlined reading in the 90's (96 i think). also they were due to headline the year before that but c.cornell has a throat problem. PLUS they have headlined sh1t loads of festivals all over the world in the past.

They played second I think in 95 and were second on the bill in 94 too (not sure if they played).

I've no idea if they've headlined other festivals in the "UK" (which is key). There are many bands that could headline festivals worldwide that couldnt in the UK and many that could headline in the UK but not elsewhere in the world.

You are the Moron my friend, if you really think Soundgarden could headline the main stage at Reading in this day and age, esp after the crowds that the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and NIN got in 97.

Im not saying they're shite or anything, I'd be keen on seeing them, all Im saying is that they could never headline at this point in time (or seemingly at their peek in the early 90s).

i was originally going to say 'do your research first.' oh dear. sorry, that was abit harsh calling you a moron and you are correct with yours.

i dnt think they could headline it, you are correct. but if blink 182 can.....

Blink is an interesting one, I think as others have said the majority of the make up of the crowd (16-24) would have been exposed to them massively when they were at their peak, yet perhaps not had the opportunity to see them and therefore it makes perfect sense for them to headline after an absence of 7 years.

Yeah, I doubt Soundgarden would headline. Bear in mind Pearl Jam and the Pumpkins were both much bigger bands in the early 90s, when all three were around. You could argue that Soundgarden were bigger than Pixies, but Pixies headlined on the back of the gigantic (pun intentional :P ) influence they had on Alternative Rock. Not doubting Soundgarden's influence, but it's not quite as widespread as Pixies was.

So yeah, 2nd headliners or NME tent headliners. They could headline Download though, as they tend not to be as fussy about the size of their headliners (see: Tool, MCR, The Offspring, Lostprophets, Slipknot etc.)

Think they'll end up subbing at Sonisphere (2011) tbh, Download would probably give them headliner if they've got two 'big guns' on the other days though. Really don't think there's much of an audience for them at Reading nowadays unless they get stuffed in the tent after a Download headliner show, which is possible.

what? the last 2 Audioslave albums were dull as hell. They just got worse and worse, they weren't a bad band but they clearly just rush released their last 2 albms to get out of their contract. Soundgarden are by far and away a better band than Audioslave (as are RATM)

    • Mac DeMarco also cancelled
    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
