Few questions

Few questions!

Are you allowed out of the site and back in again? Heading down in a minibus and planning to take loads of grub and drink to save cash. But this is liable to run out quickly to thinking of a Friday morning dash to Tescos or something, do they let cars out and in again? And is the nearest big supermarket Shepton Mallett Tesco?

I’ve done Reading countless times and V a few times also, they never let you take your own booze and food into the main arena. I’ve heard Glasto has no such boundaries and you can take your own stuff wherever? This will be a massive help as I always spend so much at festivals on food and drink and would prefer to bring my own!

Is there restrictions on bringing in gas canisters to cook my own food?

Sorry, I know this all seems food related but I’m on a budget and really don’t want to buy much at the festival as it always costs so much.

This is my first Glasto and very much looking forward to it!

I would reccomend buying all your supplies in advance.

Make sure youve bought everything you need and its already in the minibus.

You really dont want to be driving out of the carpark to go shopping in the middle of the festival. Bad idea, because its just not convenient and its a waste of half a day.

Of course you may not be able to have fresh/chilled stuff by later on in the festival but i'd just reccomend buying food at that point, may cost you a bit more, but much much easier.

As for the gas cannister to cook your food, i think its fine.

Cheers for both posts. Ok if you think it’s a bad idea to drive out mid festival I may well skip that. You’re right it would be a bit of a waste. I’m not completely poor but just don’t really want 5 days of paying such high amounts of cash just to eat. Especially as I tend to eat alot more at festivals (alot of walking and drinking beer!) lol. It’s the beer mainly though, I tend to drink alot at these things, who doesn’t?! And £3.50 a beer just gets too much after a while! A load of crates (for all my party not just me, I am NOT an alcoholic!) sat in the minibus is the best idea I reckon! If we can’t take glass in then I assume no one brings in bottles of spirits??!

If you want to save money on strong cider then either make sure you visit any one of the cider houses in the local area before arriving and buy up 4 litre kegs to stash in the van/bus. Hecks in Street is well wortha visit but there are many more obviously. You can try before you buy at any of them.

Burrowhill who supply the cider for the Cider Bus (a mega venue on site) deliver to your house and sell 4 litre kegs for around £6 (pre Budget price), scroll to bottom of this page. The pints will likely be around £3.50 to £4 on site this year and so just go and figure out the maths. Noone minds if you are at the drinking area at the Cider Bus and have your own personal keg by your side.

Its very laid back at Glasto and the size of a decent city. Do take into consideration that if you move your vehicle off site you wont be able to park where you were and will probably be parked a lot further away from your 1st parking spot. But just 'Popping back to the car' can take up to 2 hours per trip as well. Glasto is MASSIVE!

The west car parks do not have a monster hill to get into/out of site either so it would be an idea to consider parking on that side of the fest...look at other threads for this info.

Biggest recommendation would be to invest in a decent sack trolley for getting shit onto site and seeing as you have the space with a minibus you should definitly get one. There's 30% off on trolleys at B&Q at the mo apparently and are about £15. Well worth the money.

You can eat on a budget at the fest. There are plenty of old threads that relate to your questions, you are certainly not the first to ask them. Go have a hunt, use the search function and you will learn so much in time for your first Glasto :P

Oh thats been done twice by me!

I always take my trusty black marker pen for my clear spirits but in 04 I chucked my mate's remaining vodka away cos I wanted a water bottle...luckily I still had loads or vodka to replace it...

but a much better story was last year (I think) when I was washing my hair at CT and I use water bottles for the job. Wondered what the smell was and realised I was washing my hair with my Gin & Tonic!!! :P:P:P
