What do you think of it?

you'll defo get more people saying "that's the stage where Noel Gallagher should play".

I think it'll lose an identity and not gain one, becoming just another stage where any act on the bill might play in most people's eyes.

But Steve sounded very confident with what he's got booked, so perhaps I'm wrong.

Do we know if this is likely to be a radical change in direction and ethos for the stage or just a name tweak. For example, it changed for a year or two to the Oneworld Stage, I believe, and then back to Jazzworld. Could we see an entirely different genre on the stage, or just a slight tinkering?

Speaking to the stage booker at the weekend (nope, he didn't give me any names ), it's ethos is remaining pretty much as it's been, but with with a less narrow adherence to what might be termed as strictly being 'jazz' or 'world'.

Apparently, there's been some acts over the years who've turned down playing on that stage because of the name, so the change is designed to not put off acts as Jazzworld might have done. However, I suspect they'll now be an amount of the opposite, with bands not wanting to play it because it's no longer Jazzworld.

It was called 'Oneworld Stage' for that one year only because Yes were put onto that stage, and someone somewhere didn't think it right for them to be on that stage if it was called Jazzworld.

On a serious note, I hope it doesn't stray too far from it's original purpose and ethos. I'd hate to see it become watered down with less esoteric acts from other stages slowly leaking onto it and diluting the very distinct position it has currently

Absolutely. I enjoy knowing if there are two big stadium acts headlinging the Other and Pyramid stages and I'm not in the mood for all that, I can wander leftfield to the Jazzworld and see something a bit more cerebral, a bit unexpected, and get away from the huge crowds a little bit.

I also enjoy the whole feel in that field. The beautiful flags, the diverse food on offer and the benches dotted around to help you take a break from it all. There just somehow seems to be a whole lot more soul there than at the Other Stage or the Pyramid Stage. In short it's a lot more "Glastonbury" to me and a lot less "big gig" in the way that other large festivals feel. If you take my meaning..

I think the Pyramid stage is a breathtaking site when you first see it and when I first show my friend the Pyramid this year he will be blown away, then again, even the other stage blew me away when I first saw it.

But I think your right, Jazzworld has alot more soul to it and you can discover some really impressive acts there. For example, on the first year I went I discovered a band called Phantom Limb whose frontwoman in my opinion has the best black soul voice in current times!

Thanks for the Phantom Limb tip. Sounds good. One of my current favourite frontwomen, though she's been around for a long time, is Beverley Skeete. Sings with Bill Wyman's Rythmn Kings, though she also worked as a backing singer with the Eurythmics.

Would love to see them on Jazzworld.

Surely it would just be 'The Oasis' rather than 'Oasis Stage'...? I think The Oasis is quite a suitable name for that stage!
