world cup

The football topic seems to bring out the snob in some people i.e. NO FOOTBALL ALLOWED AT GLATO, IT'S A FESTIVAL! Y'know, the heavy, overbearing attitude?

You'll probably find they might try to show an england game if it's on but don't expect the organisers to bend over backwards for people wanting to watch the football.

I saw england get put out of a euro championship a few years ago against portugal on penalties thanks to a stall holder with a tv. Apparently there were a few stall holders who had tv's.

The world cup is a major world sporting event which appeals to many, so you should be able to catch an england game somewhere, however, expect to only see an england game or the cup final on a Glastonbury big screan.

I'm a massive footy fan but will only have interest in the England matches whilst at Glastonbury. Sure if I was at home I'd watch most of the other group matches but I won't be! It's not even like the quarters/semis/final will be taking place whilst the festivals on.

I'm not bothered whether they show it or not, but the fact is if they don't it'll be a logistical nightmare with that many people trying to leave the sight to watch it.

Can't see they have much choice really.

It could never have it's license granted again. All it would take is for england to lose and a group of pissed up Scots to clash with some pissed up English and it could kick off bigtime.

Yeah, I mean, why take it out on those poor Portuguese car manufacturers! What have they done wrong? Just because they happen to be based in Portugal (who we then lose to) does that really make them bad people? They're just doing the job they've been asked to do - to earn a living, to support a family - and I don't think the fact that they beat us at football can justify their handiwork being destroyed in an act of revenge - if we can't beat them, that's out fault.

Wait a minute....Portuguese car manufacturers? :P

Edit: Apologies if you were referring to 2002 when we lost to Brazil, or 1998 when we lost to Argentina - where the car industries are booming! :P

The idea that peaceful easygoing Glasto goers are going turn into rabid dogs by adding football is utterly banal.

They should show the matches on the big screens next to Stevie Wonder...If we keep quiet he won't notice a thing.....

Sorry, talk of football turns me into a bad person. After a pint of cider in the sun watching England I am going to shave my head, push everyone else down the long drops and hopefully get squirted with one of those big hoses used to control riots... :P

Wtf are you lot on about? Some of the comments in this thread are ridiculous. You just can't pigeon hole all football fans as the same. It's making you look stupid.

First things first is that its a music/arts festival so they won't be showing the game once the weekend starts on any significant stage. Possibly the next round sat or sun IF England get through, in cinema field or similar. I would imagine that the organisers have thought about this.

Anyhoo get a grip numpties!

    • It was always going to be the cost. stuff like this:
    • Man/Woman/Chainsaw anyone? Still 4-5 secret sets to be filled.   New album out today and Rough Trade friendly.
    • can't edit, but just to add to the above:   i get that the last bit is meant to reinforce the message that they are all horrible people and closing ranks to cover up what has happened and carry on with their lives while poor Celeste is left alone with her trauma...   i get it thematically, i just really hated the way it was on screen and i say that my ending would have made for a better movie.   🙂
    • Sadly, the ticket map below screams rear 5 blocks not on sale or never have been on sale. Especially when you look at the blue blocks with rows of unsold tickets.   And I say all of this as a big fan of Muse.
    • Personally, I don't think there will be any changes to the queuing system in place for the 2025 sale.  GFL will be aware that true bots are a risk, but they may also see large collectives of organised folks running multiple devices, containers or profiles to get an advantage as bots themselves, and then struggle to know where to draw the line without penalising folks who are simply more on the ball than others.   They will also be acutely aware that engineering tech to close those gaps will cost, and therefore eat into the money they are able to pass to the Charities, without passing those costs on to punters in the ticket price, which they will be cautious of doing especially after a 2 year break and the inevitable media coverage that will get.   This may all be naive and overly trusting of me though.....
