EMINEM

He was awful at Reading in 2001. I still have this memory of there being a bigger push to get out of the crowd than there was to get down the front. He's probably an alright bloke but he goes out of his way in his attempts to be controversial, which is unfortunate in some cases.

I actually really enjoyed him at Reading in 2001.

Really? I was never a fan but thought I'd check him out for a bit to see if he was any good live. Thought he was terrible and left with a lot of others. Perhaps he got better after I left, or he just really isn't my cup of tea. Caught the second half of Mercury Rev and was blown away, so quite glad I didn't enjoy Eminem.

As for the racist/homophobe thing - he's best mates with Dr Dre and someone said earlier about Elton John. It's blatantly just for effect.

I say there's no chance of him being there as I can't see one of the corporate festivals signing up a major global player with a contract which allowed him to be lower down the bill at one of their rivals.

As for his viewpoints, bring him to Glastonbury. Let him play. Give him the chance to see more of life's rich pageant. It's not as if being shown on the BBC at Glastonbury will make him famous. Similarly it's not going to make Glasto folk go "I think tonight I'll try a bit of racism with a dash of spousal abuse". He's a guy with a lot of issues. Glastonbury is good for the soul.

Maybe he could duet with Stevie Wonder on "Ebony and Ivory"?

I really enjoyed him but was 17 at the time and basically went for the very reason that Eminem was there and possibly wasn't looking at his performance very objectively - just in an over hyped teenagery way! :P No offence to any teenagers by the way!

I would like to see him again to see if I would enjoy it again or not though.

One of the best albums of 2009 and the best single (Beautiful). Would love him to play.

Has made homophobic remarks in songs but you could argue strongly that these are personas speaking. We need to be careful about stigmatising any individual who makes a a remark against a particular group without evaluating the full context. Remember the fuss about the film 'Bruno', there is still a lot of controversy about it now but god that was a funny film, and this made me laugh so much when I watched the video, I had to leave the office for about twenty minutes to calm down.

Anyone who promotes HATE towards a particular grouping deserves all they get, I don't think Eminem or Sasha Cohen fall into this category at all.

    • Nothing But Thieves was £73 as well. Felt for a while like arena gigs are getting to extreme levels but this is adding to that. I did think there might be more inflation thanks to the latest rise in energy costs and here we are again.
    • Some of GB news headlines are pretty close to it
    • Tbf when they had the Miami Grand Prix F1 race a few weeks ago and there was fear of rain, they said Florida being so humid meant it would drain exceptionally quickly. And tick given it looked basically waterlogged at 8 UK time but by the new start time it was fine.    The nature of the beast though is that it feels like there is a lot of scope for electrical storm induced delays. Last year's Club World Cup and even just open air gigs or festivals in America seem to get affected by this a lot.
    • The Day Today was exceptional and I like how this clip still gets resonance all these years down the line.    Shame to do a rerun now that it would probably be 5 times as expensive just on the rights to the clips alone.
