KYUSS

I just put this idea forward to Andy Copping in the 'Ask Andy' section of the Download Forums (Copied n Pasted - word4word):

"I'm very pleased you have beaten Reading & Sonisphere to the signatures of Them Crooked Vultures. Being a HUGE Kyuss fan myself and never getting the chance to have seen them live. I have noticed the 'Hellfest' lineup in france includes 'John Garcia singing Kyuss', Brant Bjork & the Bros, & Mondo Generator! Is it possible you could look into snapping all 3 of them up to play Friday at Download with Them Crooked Vultures! You could be responsible Andy for creating a 'Kyuss Reunion!' and those 3 probably wouldnt even cost you much either! It would be the most amazing thing ever! would even top the AC/DC announcement!"

and my reply from Andy Copping: "That's an interesting idea...you just never know! Andy (Maverick)"

Think I've sold it to him! :P

Think the fact that he says in the article about how he got AC/DC that he has given them an input into who plays on the Friday may be dictating who Andy will go after.

So I sent a short note that said something like, 'I know you've already turned me down but I'd really like you to take into account...' and then I had these bullets points – 'it's the 30th anniversary of Donington; it's 30 years since Back In Black; we have Radio 1 on board; you can have a say in the bands that you want to play and we can accommodate your own stage production'

interesting...where dya hear that rumour? I reckon Brant Bjork would do it tho, they all seem keen to do some sort of reunion....apart from Josh :P Considering they had 2 bass players in their time (Scott Redder & Nick Oliveri) how about just keep one of them on bass and throw the other a guitar!?....and f**k Josh basically! :P

I'm pretty sure Brant Bjork would kill to do it anyway! not sure what Scott Redders up to atm? but would be great to see Brant Bjork play and especially great to see John Garcia! It surely wouldnt cost much for AC to book John Garcia, Brant Bjork & Mondo Generator anyway especially as they will all be touring europe that time - just shove them all on the same day as TCV. and who knows if u put the cake infront of them they may just take it! defently worth a gamble!....and if not Brant Bjork & John Garcia will put on amazing sets anyway and they would cost tuppence....and of course we have never seen either at Download before. Its about time!

Bit of a problem... John Garcia is now playing Frankfurt on the Friday.

Still a small ray of hope for the Saturday or Sunday though for Garcia with his new band.

edit: In the video below, he says there may be a few guest surprises...

Damn, perhaps looking unlikely then as Croatia is a bit of a treck? Perhaps that means he'l play Sonisphere then or perhaps he wont do any festivals and just play a couple of London gigs?

Edit: Actually looking at those tour dates not 1 of those festivals is that big so i'm really doubting he'l play either Download or Sonisphere now :P perhaps he may end up at High Voltage or even Bloodstock?

I'm sure there will be a London date either way. I know a lot of smaller bands, particularly from that scene, don't bother with the UK when they visit Europe as its not worth their while, but if he's playing Dublin I'm sure he'll do London.

    • Primavera refunding day tickets which are probably a negligible percentage of attendees yesterday.
    • Thursday day tickets being refunded. Fair play.
    • I’ve had a good sleep and I feel weirdly zen about the whole thing.   My first Primavera, so not the greatest first impression. I guess today couldn’t be any worse, right?   Thoroughly enjoyed Men I Trust and Geese. Cupra is a beautiful stage and the crowd seemed fun, friendly and engaged.   I think it probably could have gone even worse, considering how dangerous the crowding felt at times.   Anyway, we go again.
    • Brighton centre is a weird old venue for the Mary Wallopers - a great band, a really good live spectacle, and its a saturday night as well which sets it all up - but its at the bloody Centre? a charmless nonsense of a conference centre? Brighton dome is a ten min walk away and is so much nicer a place to see bands its ridiculous!    ah well, i'll probably mosy along anyways . . .
    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
