I keep thinking I’ve dropped a huge massive blob here. After hearing about the nightmare traffic on the Weds morning last year me and my mates decided to book a Travelodge about 30 miles away for the Tuesday night with the aim of travelling down on the Tuesday and setting off 1st thing on the Weds morning.

I think were aiming to leave Teesside Tuesday morning/lunchtime, get to out hotel mid/late afternoon, have a little jolly over to the Tor to see the sunset and treat ourselves to a proper steak and chips dinner and then set off from or hotel first thing on the Wednesday morning to try and beat the majority of the traffic

Fingers crossed it will go to plan

My missus was a bit sceptical as well but she realised that I had wanted one since I was a kid and knew that some other form of van just wouldn't even be an option. She loves it now and can't wait for summer to get out in it, though she does complain when I go out to the garage to just sit in it and she thinks I'm odd because I talk to it too.

There are plenty of large awnings you can buy that will fit a Vdub, just get one of those, get a little portaloo and stick it in a toilet tent, you could even put the toilet tent inside the awning so you don't have to go outside to poop. :P

We've got an old school drive away awning and it's amazing how much space you get with it, it's like having a massive lounge.

If you're thinking about investing in a campervan you might want to consider the alternative of a trailer tent. I borrowed a friend's campervan for a fest last year but decided it was really just a small tent on wheels even with an awning. However some people next to us had a trailer tent and I was sold on the idea and bought one at the end of the season.

A trailer tent has a number of advantages:

a) cost - a 2nd hand trailer tent in decent nick will be cheaper than a comparable campervan. No extra insurance, road tax etc (assuming you keep your present car and have the CV as well).

:P More room. Our fold out trailer tent has two double bedrooms, plus two underbed spaces (room for two singles to sleep). The zip on awning then gives a big communal area plus kitchen area.

c) Flexibility. When staying somewhere you can just unhook the car and drive off for the day without having to pack away as much as in a campervan.

Downside:

a) Ideally you need to have somewhere to store it in the winter (luckily my mother in law has an empty garage).

:P You have to fit a towbar to your car and get into towing.

    • 👍 plus they brought their own screens 📺 either side of the stage.
    • Production was the only thing that could even explain why she would back out. Like they had sorted out the financials and she was fine with it and then a production meeting happened. It all fell apart. It was very clear that she was not going to compromise her show one bit and then that show in Brazil pretty much confirmed it. There was like one element they couldnt pull off outdoors, but it was negligible since the rest was a carbon copy of the tour she had been on. Glasto is not willing to make any bold changes on the Pyramid stage so then theyre kinda stuck in terms of what some acts want/demand. I think the easiest solution to that is putting her on Friday. You deal with the changes for one night and then re configure for the rest of the weekend. In 24 they were fortunate to have had Dua and Coldplay on Fri and Sat so they could both use the b stage. But I think it was removed for Sunday?     I saw a random rag article earlier that said Olivia Dean turned down Glasto BECAUSE her ex ( not even confirmed dating ) Harry Styles was playing the fest. hahahaha
    • No argument that he’s bigger than ever, I just have no enthusiasm for it.
    • Keep in mind those crowds were full of teenagers. Glasto aint full of teenagers. Theres no way she could demand headline and get it because they got other acts to give the slot to who deserve it with a bigger catalog. Reading/Leeds would headline her cause its still LN.  If the fest was struggling its Other headline. But a 3rd down Pyramid is likely the landing spot. Itll go down like the Camila Cabello performance pretty much.
