Has to be the fabric conditioner bottle in the tent (Tesco do a massive 4 litre one!) to avoid night time visits to the loos!

Tips from me for any festival:

Cereal bars for the morning when you are really peckish but can't quite make it to the vans JUST yet...

Other bits of food to snack on

Tea and Coffee from festivals is about 1.20 (guessing has gone up since then?) so take your own stove and kettle unless you want to spend 20 quid on teabags and water! They sell fresh milk (well they did in 2008) on a little van that goes round the site shouting Milk for 50p! so be aware of this if you want a nice fresh milk tasting brew. If not take URT milk.

Take lots of socks. You can never get enough

A hat for the worst days towards the end of the festival

A rolling machine for roll up cigarettes (if you need them) to save the hassle of trying to roll when your co-ordination aint that great...

A bucket for the middle of the night. It can be embarassing if tent has somebody else lying there partner/friend you don't know very well but it's better than getting up trust me

Make a space for your little tent group to sit in over the 5 days and guide it with your life-otherwise someone will put their tent slap bang into it as it gets busier. Maybe get some tape to pull across or put so much rubbish there nobody wants to go there. Or make it too tight to fit even the smallest of tents in.

Go up to the stone circle on the first night and buy lots of flares!!

All this talk of pissing in buckets revolts me. What's the matter with you people? Have you the bladders of OAPs?

Taping off areas is frowned upon by some people. I think it's OK to try and keep a 'hanging out area', but at the same time it's antisocial to become a huge obstacle to other people trying to get around the campsites.

Be aware that boiling water on a little camp stove takes FOREVER especially if it's windy. By all means go for it if you're that keen on a cheap brew. I'm happy to pay for the convenience of having one made for me.

Hmmm I didnt realise this!

I have never actually used tape ever but I have seen people who do it. Every single time I have been to a festival somebody decides to put their tent right in the middle (never a massive gap) even when we obviously had had a fire there! I appreciate that people really need a spot come Thursday-Thursday evening but hey Ill just have to hope it doesn't happen again this year...

Sunscreen for the day

a few extra thin layers for the night

Try not to see every band under the sun, pick a couple of bands and a headliner and bimble.

Don't feel scared to explore, if you think you can get in to somewhere go for it.

Erm, its all great advice and all but are some people missing the point?:P

The idea was each person to give there one top tip, otherwise its just like any other thread. I thought it was a neat idea having that one essential bit of advice anyone could give.

Mine based on one festival is to get a tent double the amount of people you plan to have inside, I had a 3 man for me and my mate and we just had no room what so ever once all our stuff was inside.

Its not on ! :P

The other year some group thought they could have 1/2 an acre !

Personally If I should happen to stand on some tape and it breaks then I feel not one bity sorry

for breaking property.

Last year we had about 8 tents , and we did not tape em off , Thursday morning , I presumed a tent

next to mine was one of ours. The lad apologised for putting his tent next to mine.

I told him " no worries its a festival and we all get on so to speak ! " ,

Turned out he had come on his own could not find anywhere in the dark to pitch and in desperation

had put it next to me as a temp measure. He stayed all festival , we got on really well , he got invited to come into our 12 man chilling tent anytime and he is coming next year and will no doubt be near

me again.

:P

My one tip is not to plan too much, I've missed so much by trying to schedule all the bands I wanted to see. Pick maybe 2 or 3 that you want to see each day and go and see them, spend the rest of the time wandering into marquees/across stages at random to see what's happening - I guarantee you'll have better memories of the festival.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
