The snow finally arrived in South Wales this morning. As I live half way up a mountain and the way down from my house is a 1 in 4 lane I'm not going to be going anywhere for a day or two and am just going to enjoy the beautiful views.

Unfortunately was planning to go to a gig in Ebbw Vale tomorrow night but that's now out of the question.

It's a bigger problem for my niece who was due to drive to Heathrow today to get a flight to South Africa to spend Christmas there with her husband. Not sure she'll get out of her village, let alone to the M4 or Heathrow.

We were chased home by the approaching snow storm that let loose within a minute of getting into the house after turning around en route to town when the road was too icy to get along. It was quite cool seeing the entire landscape and sky over Surrey, Kent and East Sussex being enveloped by very dark grey and ominous clouds (we have big vistas in my part of the world).

The back country lane we live down was absolutely fine getting home on at 2pm just before the snow came down. When we went to try and go out again by 3pm, no chance! The inch of snow plus numpties with shite tyres and rear wheel drive meant that sheet ice had been produced in a very short space of time and we are going NOWHERE for a couple of days now! Sun had gone down by 4 and the temperature had dropped to -5c.

Bollocks is all I can say :( Oh and Christmas is cancelled (which is what I wanted anyway!)

Mrs Grumpyhack is determined to go to work tomorrow but we can't get cars down our 1 in 4 lane so I'm going to help her totter down the hill and see her onto the bus. I think she's barking mad. So glad I've got my decent Glasto walking boots and a pair of thermal long johns.

Dug a track for my car down our snow covered 1 in 4 lane today and slithered out for the first time this week to get Mrs GH to work, do a food shop and stock up with ciggies. Was able to get back up this afternoon and have to go back out shortly to collect Mrs GH.

Not sure about the wisdom of going to a gig in Cardiff tonight. I should be able to get there but less certain about getting safely home.

Decision made for me - gig cancelled because the band can't make it. Have to go and play boules in the snow at the local pub instead.

    • Nearly half owed to UK pension funds and banks, a third to foreign investors and the rest to the Bank of England.  We can say we won't pay the interest or the loans back but who would lend us 100 billion again next year? The Bank of England are selling their portion  at the moment which I read is making things worse so we should tell them to stop but I don't really understand why that is.
    • Gotta be worth a bump for old times sake
    • Let's hope you're right - having secret set by Olivia Rodrigo would be huge. It might even overshadow the Thursday trainwreck.   We'll see in a couple of hours.
    • Yet again we’re missing the WH Sunday reggae slot
    • Occident has got larger over the years and there's relatively little overlap with mbv and OR fans that I think it would work fine as it would divide the crowd so effectively.   They don't even need to give the biggest stage from an optics perspective either, this would be billed as a secret short set and used to promote her new album.
