Hi all, does anyone know if we'll be ok to put a small tent up in the Campervan field next to our camper van, but not attached to it.

thanks for your help

Yeah you'll be fine. We do it every year. Aslong as you don't take the p*ss no-ones bothered!

Hi everyone.

Looks like I'll be attending my first Latitude festival this year, and really looking forward to it.

Don't know a huge deal about the bands playing, although in particular looking forward to Jonsi, and Belle & Sebastian. Looking forward to experiencing the range of different parts to the festival (film, theatre, etc) as well.

A question to those who have been before. What's the festival like generally, the atmosphere, etc?

Also, are there any rumours about the 'special guests' on the obelisk stage... here's hoping for Tinariwen, who are doing festivals this year.

It's like a smaller, mellower, more intimate Glastonbury. I love it there and can't wait to go again this year. I'm really looking forward to the excellent comedy tent, sneaking bags of wine into the arena, glorious Suffolk sunshine, Jonsi and Noah & The Whale.

Lots of cool bands announced, then James, The Feeling and The Coral? :P

Aye. But for every Feeling there has been a Strange Boys and for every James we have a Black Mountain.

Some good bands on that latest announcement imo.

Plus the idea is to try and please as many people as possible. And... though I don't know why, a lot of people do like The Feeling.

The Feeling can f**k off as far as I'm concerned. Booking them is a betrayal of what this festival is about.

Kristin Hersh and Black Mountain, however, are a different proposition altogether.

That's a litte bit over dramatic, don't you think? Where is the mandate which outlays "what this festivals is about"?

There are another 4 or 5 music stages and god knows how many other areas to choose from whilst they're playing. How can one band betray an entire festival? The Feeling are very much a radio 2 friendly, mainstream pop act and there is no reason why a lot of the people who have been attending Latitude over the past few years (families, 30/40 somethings, etc) would not like them.

I've booked tickets for Latitude to avoid shite like that. I've gotten fed up with the commercialised, homogenous bill offered by T in the Park and am attracted by the innovation and quality acts offered by Latitude - Grizzly Bear, xx, National, Jonsí, Spoon, Yeasayer.

My point is that even if I thought the Feeling weren't utter garbage, I could get them anywhere. Not only are they stealing oxygen, they're stealing a slot on the bill that could be occupied by someone miles better.

Caribou, for example.

Mika was on the bill last year and I thought that was abit strange. However, go and do something else whilst The Feeling are on, just take a stroll around the site and catch something you wouldnt usually see.

Its a fantastic festival that offers a great deal, no need to get so upset about one particular act, just avoid them.

They're so bad I'd be tempted to go see them armed with a few bottles and a full bladder. They're one of the worst bands I've ever heard.

I'm not THAT upset :P... and of course I'll be going to see something else. The comedy line-up looks particularly good with a few other gems scattered about. :P

    • Top 5 acts of the weekend for me: 1. The Cure 2. my bloody valentine  3. caroline 4. Father John Misty 5. Big Thief   Biggest disappointments: - Slowdive (the mixing/sound just wasn’t right, and that was about 20 rows from the front of the stage) - The xx (also too quiet and marred by talkers who had no interest in the music)    Positives from an organisational sense: - extra water point at Mordor this year - handing out ponchos before the rain and ear plugs before mbv    However…two of the water points had ran out on Saturday evening, which is completely unacceptable when you stop people from bringing in large bottles of water, and charge €4.50 at the bars for a 330ml can
