I love my festivals and yes I am a self confirmed u2 freak I have seen them live 5 times , people have got to remeber one thing , u2 come into their own when they play to huge audiances nobody does it better. I know Bono can bet a tit who goes on about saving the world and watching your carbon footprint as he flys around the world in his private jet, but no one can doubt he is a world class front man

I have seen some bands in my time some have been great and some have been awful ( yes Im looking at you the red hot chilli peppers , leeds festival 07 ) . So for all of you u2 haters wait and see the judge them after you have experiance them live.

also big up to Micheal and Emily :P:P:P

I saw them live at Twickenham and personally I found Bono nauseating. Despite his moving 'blindfolded peace' routine and TWICE performing their modern classic Vertigo (one, two, three, fourteen!)

So yes, I'm probably a 'hater', but I'm sure you'll enjoy them- each to their own and all that. I hope they have a massive crowd so I can get to the front of the JP/Other/Jazz World stage to see whatever ace alternative headliners they have on Friday night.

I am not a U2 hater. I am not so keen on their output even though there are songs I like. Apart from all that I can see why people like them and they are obviously a talented band - just not to my taste.

However - I do hate Bono.

This guy loves himself and loves the importance he creates about himself by spouting on about saving the world. Well hows this for an idea Bono... give all your money (except for an amount for comfortable living) to Greenpeace, Oxfam and the carbon footprint crew so you can really help out saving the world instead of pointing mini cameras close up at your own face and telling us to do it.

Anyway, I would never argue that such a popular band who has survived all these years is rubbish - they are obviously not, but I do think all the fuss about Bono (including the fuss he makes of himself) is just way OTT and I disagree about him being a world class front man.

He could be a world class frontman if he gave a good show to the audience and put his heart and soul into it with the objective to give the paying audience the show of their lives. But he doesnt... he takes to the stage in his shades pointing mini cameras at his face and moans on about saving the world. I have nothing against saving the world - except when it is preached by a rich self-righteous ego maniac who thinks the whole of the human race should applaude his very existance.

Mick Jagger - world class frontman.

Dave Gahan - world class frontman.

Freddie Mercury - world class frontman

I could list more names but all those above are examples of people who give to the crowd 100% without constantly thinking "wow, I really am so great" and preaching to them.

A good comparison is Robbie Williams. I think Williams is a nasty piece of work and his ego and self obsession is clearly shown on stage, however it comes nowhere near to the way Bono acts in his stage shows, interviews etc.

Yes the U2 shows are amazing - but mainly because of the stage sets. I have had the privilege of seeing Pulp play many times. Jarvis Cocker (IMO) is a world class frontman as he is entertaining whilst singing/playing, clearly loves the music, talks with the crowd in a very friendly way and works 100% flat out to give all he can to his performance. I just dont think Bono can come anywhere close to that level of professionalism and entertainment.

Bono hatred is good. ;-)

I'm not even a huge U2 hater. It's the "They are the best thing ever" type thing I object to. How does this person know that? Has he or she seen AC/DC, Iron Maiden, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Muse and Queen? Or any of the other massive touring stadium-filling bands? How does he quantify "the best" anyhow? Does he rate the band, the act on a chart, with peformance points going on the Y-axis and the duration of the concert on the x-axis and then compare with other similar lines by other artists?

Where's the evidence? Or is another fan-boy posts - and I've seen enough of them over the years?
