It's all semantics though really. Yes of course alcohol is a drug but if one of your mates asks whether you've got any drugs, they aren't wondering whether you've got a spare can of stella, or even a Red Bull. (See - caffeine - theres another one! Oh yes and paracetemol - far more deadly than heroin!)

Everyone knows what we mean when we say drugs & it strikes me as odd that the very same people who have a very clear shared understanding of what they mean by "drugs", also feel the need to come up with the "alcohol is a drug" thing at every given opportunity.

It's is all part of the general drugs debate on heirachy of harms, but i find it a bit tedious when it's trotted out here. Those arguments are for people who don't understand anything about illegal drugs and think they're better than you because they only drink alcohol and would never touch weed or coke or mdma or whatever. I don't think those people are in here.

It's not odd.

There can only ever be sensible opinions about 'drugs' if all drugs including alcohol and tobacco are a part of the consideration. People wanting to consider them as something different leads to the idea that those legal drugs are somehow better for you (when they're not), and everything that comes from that.

In another thread on this boards, a poster and I have both said we got sacked from our jobs many years ago purely as a result of us having attended Glastonbury Festival - because (as a part of the reasoning) we were drugged up hippies who couldn't be relied upon simply because of that perception of drugs and drug takers.

Can you imagine someone being sacked cos they went to the pub the previous evening? Me neither. Yet it's an identical thing.

I made that "alcohol is a drug too" post to try and wise the poster up I was responding to that his comment that he doesn't take drugs is simply incorrect.

How about this perspective from moi

Months since taken anything that may be classed as illegal - Quite a few , will not really be bothered for some until next summer

Hours since last had alcohol - 16 , and christ I fancy a drink now , cannot wait to get home and have a

beer , oh and out Sat night for a curry so beer and lager and wine , oooh got White Lies on Sunday so will have a beer for that , and Kasabian on Mon, not driving so few beers for that , Christmas is coming up so beer , lager , wine , champers , vodka

So which is the problem for me then ?

I'm amazed at the extent to which your response completely misses the point of mine!

As yours did mine. :P

I made that first post. It had the point I meant for it, as following posts make clear. My answer to you was simply an explanation for the why, which you had queried.

All I'm trying to say is that I think people here have got it

society at large certainly hasn't. Why do you think that society at large isn't reflected in users of this forum?

If it all bothers you so much that you'd like it to go away then the easiest way to achieve that is to not post and perhaps drag it out. :P

    • I’d expect U2 & Muse to be options too.
    • I see there's yet another article doing the rounds about Madonna doing BST, and not Glastonbury.   That could be right, but given there'll be plenty of tickets to shift for BST, could it not just be false info doing the rounds to protect that?? Not that I think Madonna would struggle to shift tickets, or that Glastonbury would have that much impact, but still - would probably still make sense to protect ticket sales when it's announced?
    • Given BST recently I wouldn't expect it as rock heavy as that. I kinda am expecting it'd be where The Cure play though as I'm expecting a second year touring of them
    • Id suggest they would need another new album before they play again - Otherwise the show is going to probably be very similar to the one they played at the last festival.
    • Absolutely not, I dont know of it selling out but they needed TFG and Skyvip to shift them. Biffy aren't either and they didn't go to TFG and I wouldn't say Kasabian are either and they sold it out the quickest. Liam Gallagher did Finsbury Park as well and subbed the Pyramid Stage, Noah Kahan did two nights at BST and subbed the Pyramid though that's a rare one. Finsbury itself will definitely not grant you top spot, that field can hold 100k      That's fair. I'm definitely in the camp myself that Fender and Harry are most likely.
