This is the lander before it landed as seen from Rosetta:

Absolutely brilliant stuff, to think 100 years ago, most of the countries involved in this were starting to kill each other. This week, working together they have achived landing a probe on a moving comet, 510m km away from Earth!

The Open University (yes really!) couldn't decide on a colour scheme for the deck chairs quickly enough, they're hoping to provide a couple of chair fabrics on Dream Chaser, or possibly a cushion cover

Nope Rosetta will be relaying all sorts of great information from Philae.

Philae is going last around 3 months on battery power, and I think Rosetta is around a year before it stops working when the comet travels to far away from the sun for it to get power.

So we all know that "in space no one can hear you scream" thanks to Mr R. Scott and most of us know that this is actually true because sound does not travel through a vacuum, which space is primarily made up of, but electromagnetic waves do pass through a vacuum and these can be transformed into electric signals that can be amplified and used to produce audible sound from a speaker. Thus space can be listened to and actually has a "sound".

 

This is a recording of the "sound" of the planet Earth in space. The sounds we hear are the electromagnetic interactions between the planet's magnetosphere and the solar winds; the sounds of the magnetosphere and the electromagnetic fields themselves; charged particles; and charged particle interactions with the moon, earth and solar wind.

 

Weird thing about it is that it is basically what you think space "should" sound like......................well it was to my ears
