I think the BNP being on QT is a good thing, I don't think it should be censored by people who disagree with what's being said so they say 'it's not allowed to be broadcast'

I don't think the BNP is a good thing, - but they have 2 MEP's, and will probably gain more support in the coming election - what needs to be discussed is WHY there is a climate where people feel they have to vote for the BNP - current policies/politicians have let this happen, and it needs discourse.

You can't pretend that the BNP isn't there, that the issues they gain votes over aren't there.

It's too simple just to say "they're racists let's ban them" - they ARE racist, but they raise issues that many people feel strongly about, and banning them or muzzling them is not a healthy response.

The influence isn't as obvious or as direct as that. Your newspaper relies on advertising for its existence. The revenue from that advertising is determined by circulation. Consequently, the editorial content of any newspaper is going to be in line with its target demographic - it needs to keep them happy to maintain its circulation, in order to maintain its revenue from advertising. If the torygraph was to adopt the editorial content of the grauniad, it would go out of business - it's circulation would fall to such an extent that it couldn't sell its advertising space for enough money. So what you have is a proprieter that has x agenda and that agenda appealing to y demographic and y demographic appealing to z advertiser. The relationship between x, y and z is by far the biggest influence on editorial content that there is - editorial content is determined by what it takes to maintain that relationship. It is far more subtle than an ad agency dictating policy

This year I consciously counted the number of non-white faces I saw at Glasto and in six days the total came to just eight. I do worry that it has become a white, middle class gathering.

..I'd say most of them to be honest. It's not exactly a long piece, and everything I've seen posted about it anywhere (or blogged, or reported in other media) has had a link to the article. It took less than a minute to read, I reckon that most people at the very least read it out of curiousity to see what the fuss was about.

Yes , but whatever your views on the BNP they are a legitimate political party , as are Sinn Fein and

the Ulster Democratic Party. And I think the BBC have thought that the best way to deal with this

is let them speak , and hopefully they will trip themselves up and their true colours are shown.

I see the agenda as maintaining the established status quo - the wealthy (and I mean wealthy rather than just a few quid) stay wealthy and continue to wield the real power and authority in the world. Just look at the recapitalisation of the banks - the wealthiest expanded their fortunes considerably during the good years - then sat back and watched us recapitalise them out our own pockets when they needed it. Socialism for the richest - that's some power and authority that is. At no point anywhere in the media did we read we shouldn't be recapitalising banks because we only saw that the alternative to recapitalisation was disaster. And that's because we're now comvinced that capitalism represents the natural order of the world, the only way we can dio things - when, in truth, its just another system created by man.

I'm no economist, but sympathise with what you're saying, and agree the argument for letting the banks fail was hardly shouted from the rooftops. In a vindictive way I would have liked to have seen this happen to some extent, but can't imagine Britain, as a net importer of food and fuel, with an economy heavily based in the city, would have done too well. With this on the cards I think many would have adopted the "look after number 1" mindset and supported capitalism in the short term at least.

Im in two minds whether letting them collapse would have been good or bad. My radical side says it would have been interesting to see what emerged, my non-radical side says it would have been bloody hard work! Though being net importers of food and energy are going to be the two biggest issues facing UK Plc over the next 20 years - and determine future environmental policy.
