they are certainly good enough to take glastonbury by storm and i think eavis should at least put one band still at their peak as a headliner

ive had a look at the william hill list and only bowie would i actually pay money to see individually

it would make my fest to see them and they desevere the top spot and they have done arena tours

but does eavis think they are big enough?

It'd definitely be a fly or fall risk and would raise a few eyebrows, but I've seen Arcade Fire before and they'd definitely fly, no question. Why the heck not? Definitely worthy Other Stage headliners if he doesn't want to take the Pyramid risk, but if Arctic Monkeys can do it after two albums (one of which was out after they were announced as headlining- correct me if I'm wrong) then why can't Arcade Fire? I'd definitely welcome them!

ive often thought that people would flock to the pyramid stage to see the headliner whoever they are

is this stupidity, sheepness or a strong faith in eavis that he always give you a worthy headliner

would love to test this by having a st winifred school choir reunion headlining singing there is no one quite like grandma

fully agree mate, they would be a wonderful headliner.

The only thing that worries me is that I seem to recall Win saying he loathed playing glastonbury in 2007, so I wonder if they will even be there at all?

I think this.

Have they announced a tour for next year yet? I'm not even sure when their new album comes out, so Glasto may come too early, and that's before you have to consider the band's actual thoughts on the place.

I don't think they'll play. Hope I'm wrong though - I love them.

I'd love it, just love it, if Michael Eavis put his crusty balls on the line and went for a set of headliners that had never headlined before.

Friday: Arcade Fire. Newish band (but with a big enough back catalogue to fill the slot: 2 possibility of 3, albums plus an EP) but each have been great.

Saturday: Elbow. Current, well loved band with a decent sized back catalogue (yes! they really have done more than one album!)

Sunday: Flaming Lips. Huge (and sensational) back catalogue, legendary band.

Job done, and none of the bands would command vast fees either.

They'd be tremendous headliners, though I confess to not really knowing much of the Flaming Lips, but as for the other two - each have an album in my top 10 albums of all time list. I adore them.

I'd LOVE to see the reaction on here if Eavis booked those three. It'd go into meltdown with moaning. And it'd be brilliant. ;);)

You're right, it would go mental on here, it would be sensational. But each of those bands are critically acclaimed so I would be interested to see what peoples arguments against them would be.

As for flaming lips, most people seem to think the soft bulletin is their masterpiece album, so if you ever get the urge to spotify them I guess I'd say start there. It's as much about the live show as the albums these days though. Wayn Coyne's voice can have a marmite effect on people though, it's pretty different from guy garveys...

People would say they aren't big enough, without having heard anything from any of these artists, and that by signing 'small' acts, the festival 'ain't what it used to be'. I agree with you - it'd be a fabulous move but it won't happen.

Arcade Fire and Elbow piss all over ANYTHING The Killers, the Arctics, Kings of Leon (nowt against KOL actually, but I just don't think they're anything amazing) or other dull bands who have headlined before. They'd put a better show on, have a much wider range of styles and would both be exceptionally atmospheric.

I'd be right at the front for either of these, no matter where they played on site. Love 'em.

arcade fire were on the other stage in 2007......they followed rufus wainright and then bjork headlined that night.

we managed to get really close to the front and they had the crowd singing and jumping for most of set.

not sure if they will have a new album to feature unlike 2007 wher they had enough from 2 albums to make a really gr8 set.

I've not! I'm still waiting for my deluxe furry-CD-case set to arrive from America. I know it's available to download everywhere but I want my first listen to be on my stereo rather than through my pc speakers.

I have heard mixed reviews. I'm really looking forward to playing it - I love silver trembling hands but I understand that is the most radio friendly song on there? I am glad they have taken a step in a new direction though, AWWTM worried me a little bit (despite is having some absolutely ace tracks). How much of it do you think would translate to a live show?

Zaireeka has one of my favourite songs by the lips on it - riding to work in the year 2025 - but yeh, it's kind of a hard song to play, not having 4 stereos in my house

I wouldn't say White Stripes was much of a punt in 2005, they had headlined Reading the year before, were bringing out their fifth record and Elephant was already heralded as a multimillion-selling cast-in-stone classic.

Still, I get what you're saying.

  • 2 weeks later...

In 2007 the last two on the other stage were Editors followed by Arcade Fire, I'd be delighted if that was to be replicated on the Pyramid for the Friday.

Editors have their new album to tour and AF must be getting closer (late spring 2010 was something I read ages ago) so hopefully discussions are in place.

    • Blink 182 have been announced here at Rock im Park for next year this evening so you'd think Download will follow up from Green Day and get them. Be a mad miss if they don't.   In which case I'm going with Blink, Slipknot and the 3rd could be many options. If they get Foos for the 3rd it'll be the best trio I can remember for a long time. It would absolutely rip this years as a trio to shreds and I say that as a LP big fan.
