Heres what my reaction was like when I heard Coldplay were headlining that year.

1992.My last visit. They used the muck spreaders to spray water to keep the dust down.

I also remember not being able to buy suntan lotion anywhere so I resorted to smearing myself with calamine lotion.

I looked like something from Lord of the Rings.

The system used by the oil industry requires a sophistcated anaylsis of a collection of forecasting medium from around the world to bring together a reliable and stable forecast.

The met office however have a bit of wet seaweed, some fir cones and an old dear with a dodgy knee who can feel it in her bones.

Since 2003 I've noticed a disturbing link:

2009 - with Springsteen, Young, Blur - Dry

2008 - Jay Z, King of Leon, the Verve - Dry

2007 - Arctic Monkeys, the Killers, the Who - er, Wet.

2005 - White Stripes, Coldplay. Basement Jaxx - Wet again.

2004 - Oasis ,McCartney, Muse - Wet. certainly muddy.

2003 - REM, Radiohead, Moby - Dry.

When 2/3's of the Pyramid headliners are Yanks, the weather is good. We're in for a Wet One my friends.

Still looking cool for June but warmer through July and August. Hopefully the warmer conditions will start at the end of June.

I follow weather forums and those charts posted above are treated with a very large pinch of salt.

We'll have no real idea of the weather conditions for Glastonbury until mid June folks....

Regardless of the accuracy or not of long term forecasting, I think that the fact they forecast for a month at a time is of little use to most applications. Even if it said that June was going to have temperatures above the norm and rain below the norm, that's not to stop it being blistering for 3 weeks and then having biblical storms at the end.

Not that something like that is going to happen of course, because it will be sunny and dry and wonderful and I'll get sunburnt and drunk and be grinning like a w*nking chimp for the full 5 days. Oh yes I will.

BULLSHIT. There is no such thing as a reliable and stable long range forecast. It is based on previous years, current modelling, human interpretation of the figures and a healthy bit of guess work!

Personally I think its best all round to think rain and if its dry and sunny then we will all be happy and if it isn't then none of us will be disappointed. Doncha think (or is that to grown up and sensible for a weather thread)

    • RIP Roy Hattersley
    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
