The Beatles

That was a child's song. What you are doing there is judging AA Milne by standards you'd normally associate with Shakespeare.

Now, if you really want to dig into a f**king horrid Macca number, Mull of Kintire (sp) is the one to go for.

Ebony and Ivory makes me want to puke. I quite like Mull of Kintyre.

Oh, and The Girl is Mine is cringeworthy.

OH  MY  GOD

i just spotified it - i feel dirty!!

It makes me laugh as it's so bad. I think the whole album is a piss-take to be fair though, the quote on the sleeve says 'Life is life - this was just a record'.

He also covers a Beatles track. After hours of ceaseless searching his old band's back catalogue, and with permission from his mate Paul who said 'sure Rings, pick a song John and I wrote. Any song. Go for it.' he chose.................Love Me Do.

Dear. God.

Vertical Man - the most comedically awful album I've heard in ages.

I can't help but think that the reference to the potato blight was probably in the wrong thread. Which annoyed me, because we studied it in history, A-Level. Although for the main it was with regards to Robert Peel rather than the suffering in the then colonies.

Was, am and always will be proud of the chat I had with a fat Girl in Dublin about the Potato famine..

"You English bastard killed my family in the famine..."

I suggested that she didn't really look like she was short of a potato. I shuld be in the diplomatic core, I really should...

Is it common for jokes to be told about it in the UK? Tis is a serious taboo over here.

Brilliant.

I might have gone "Well, to be fair I haven't done it yet. I'm going to build a time machine though, and now you've brought it up, I'll go back to Ireland in the 1840s and kill your family then. I wasn't planning on doing that, but Im going to make a point of it. So really, it's your fault. You killed your own family".

Although yours was a lot snappier.

hehe As Alan P famously said about the Potato famine... well you will pay the price if you're a fussy eater!

Not really. Nobody really gives a f**k about what happened in Ireland one hundred and fifty years ago. In fact, most people don't actually give a f**k as to what's happening outside their own little circle in the last three or four months, I'd say.

I honestly don't know what the current Irish are moaning about though. You should have seen what the Brits did to the Indians. f**k me that death toll ran into like seven figures, didn't it?

Except the Scots. They keep bringing shit like the Battle of Stirling up over and over again.

Imagine is just amazing. Love that track.

As for the other examples - they're all on the Plastic Ono Band album aren't they?

He did a track called Isolation - can't remember if that's on the POB or Imagine album, but it's a cracking tune.

And.....?

Didn't Kurt Cobain say 'Rape Me'? Now I know he was a bit of a fruit loop, but I don't think he was actually saying 'Rape Me'.

You're thinking too literally, Peevis me old mate.

You obviously haven't been to an Old Firm game.

You know, I keep thinking Scotland has got it's independence from the UK to the extent I've stopped caring about that too.

I wish they'd just get on with it now. The English have had most of the oil anyhow.

Scotland - an old girl who has let herself go, that you've done too often and you've moved on from.

Not sure Kurts Missus has been quoted as "that song symbolised his dream for the world..."

All I'm saying is, see the song in context.

lovely tune, nice sentiment, just don't believe that he meant it!

Reinterpreted well Sir... You should be Pope!

On a slightly different note, for those Manson Family enthusiasts out there, "Sexy Sadie" Susan Atkins died during the week. A scary and evil piece of work in her day.

Here she is during the trial, turning around and laughing at Sharon Tates family (including Roman Polanski), while the description of how Sharon Tate was killed was being read out.

Not the kind of girl you’d bring home to your mother.

Although I'd say she was a demon in the sack.

I knew she was dying, but didn't know she'd actually died. F**king good riddance.

She kept applying for parole saying she's had an exemplary record whilst inside, but that photo just shows why she should never have been left out. Evil cow. Anyway, the song 'Sexy Sadie' is nowt to do with Susan Atkins.

Did you know that Sexy Sadie was originally going to be called Maharishi? So the line 'Maharishi - what have you done?' was something to do with him groping one of the Beatles' entourage. But Lennon changed it to 'Sexy Sadie'. Who wasn't Susan Atkins. Because the Manson murders happened nearly half a decade after The White Album was released.

EDIT: sorry, dates are wrong. The Manson murders were in 1969, a year after the White Album. Regardless, it still couldn't have been her Lennon was referring to.

    • I got in for £11.25 in the end, which was absolutely ridiculously good value, and made the queues and overselling of the venue much more tolerable! Sniping in on other people’s unwanted tickets on the day of an event might become my new hobby I think 🥳
    • Ann and Nancy Wilson are planning a final world tour for HEART starting next year. They were never at Glastonbury. They should do it.
    • sub yes I could see but I don't think they get 1hr 15, a headliner starting at 18:15 though is unlikely. Even the recent co-headlines that have had like 1hr 15 then a 1hr 30 after were on 8pm or just before, you are trailing behind more than 1.5 hours then. In that scenario some 3rd down bands are only starting at 18:15 and some haven't lol. I agree they won't not book them due to this but it won't be 6 headliners. It would be 5 headliners and you wouldn't want to see 5 headliners booked but Biffy were to not be thouhgt of as an option for one. Wolf Alice on the other hand could sub no bother and you'd think nothing of it. I'm not so sure Biffy would get headline though after the festival choice in Kendal this year.
    • Definitely. UKIP also used Merkel welcoming 1 million Afgans to Europe in 2015 during the brexit vote.   Politicians in other countries within the EU know the are going to lose voters to parties to the right of them over stuff like this and they've no control over it.
