I have just asked the question below in another forum and got the following reply...

KYJenni - "I will be on site at Reading fearing for my life probably. Is it really that bad there? Anyone been before? I'm expecting to see a burning wasteland come Monday. I'll probably be chased down by naughty chavs who have just been caught on camera. I am going it alone mostly as my personal protector Rastaman has to be somewhere else :D"

Stricky - "It'll be a burning wasteland come Friday evening. The kids generally start to go feral by sat night, and by Sunday they have formed rudimentary societies, the hierarchies of which are based on who has the biggest fire / most nitrous left / most ridiculous hair.

Then their mums come and pick them up on monday so they can go back to school."

Made me chuckle so thought I'd share!

My mate refuses to return after experiences such as aforementioned young folk actually trying to drag his tent off of him to throw on the fire as he was trying to leave site after the music ended (2 Readings ago!) Spent the rest of Sunday night in the car waiting for his mates to join him!

Even my friend who goes to Reading every year almost, says that there are still alot of what I call try hards, a.k.a people (usually youngsters) who try too hard to fit in with a fashion or scene and end up just looking silly. I also heard from him that these people are extremely annoying. Saw a few at glasto by the other stage during the prodigy and even there general presence pissed me off so much. Your at a festival for f**k sake not a fashion show. I reckon if I ever go to reading and leeds I would probably have killed myself by sunday with the amount of try hards. At least the try hards at Glasto didn't burn down peoples tents and get drunk on WKD.

Cheers,

BlackHole2006

PLEASE NOTE: I am not saying that glasto is full of try hards in any way, it was only a few of them that I saw at the other stage, I generally think that the majority of the people at G are lovely.

It's just so sad, it truly is.

I first went to Reading in 2003, and had just the best time EVER, and continued to do so every year after that.

HOWEVER.....

I went last year, and vowed never to return again. It was like a Top Shop/Top Man sale everywhere you looked, just a massive, muddy catwalk for middle class trying-to-be-cool kids. For the first time ever at Reading, we decided to pack up our tents in the dark at 3am to escape the utter carnage that was unfolding around us.

Now, I'm now wimp - far from it - but the sight of the MASSIVE lighting poles above our heads being rocked with such force that they would annihilate anything beneath them when they fell, the spotty little shite who though it was OK to walk up to my 17 year old daughter and call her a C*** and threaten her, whilst we stood around our tents watching the aforesaid carnage, not knowing quite what to do, and then myself being called a fat bit** whilst the offending middle-class oik waved a metal bar around next to my face, but we decided to call it a day. This was at midnight. It then took the following THREE hours for us to be able to get our gear together, and safely get out of the area in purple camping that we'd been penned into - the same area we'd always camped in.

As we left, with our rather badly packed gear, we had to walk up a REALLY dark, gravel track, on which was scattered various debris, including the toilet blocks which had been destroyed. Because of this, there were the large metal frames from the scaffolding that holds them up. Consequently, my sister, a pretty hardcore festy goer since about 1990, slipped on the metal frames and ended up with her knee literally hanging open. We tried to get help for her, and when we finally found a sympathetic security guy, we had to walk for 20 mins to get to the medical tent. Inside the tent, we were told she'd have to wait for a couple of hours as there was a queue. The queue consisted of more Top Shop clones, off their faces, and just being a general pain in the arse.

We left. We finally got home, sister was exhausted and emotional, and just wanted to sleep. I took her to our local hospital later that day, they said she needed stitches but they were unable to do them, because the wound was over 12 hours old....

Anyway, I've now shared my version of War & Peace with you, but I wanted to explain the reason WHY we as a group, won't be returning to Reading again. It really does make me sad

& BBC3 have just said that there seems to be a new influx of youngsters there this year. :D

Conversely I've just seen Placebo play. Great stuff but looked a relatively empty field

I have never been and don't intend to start. I'd be at Shambala this weekend if I could have escaped anywhere. People must enjoy it there, but you don't need all that hassle. Enjoyment at others' expense is not the way forward.

Will be interesting to see how:

....the likes of 5co77ie and Strudders found it.

.... the end-of-fest recycling scheme goes.

Watching the coverage now, nice to see Kings of Leon finally headlining festivals, probably helped in part by Glastonbury giving them a chance last year.

Really intrigued as to what Radiohead are gonna play on Sunday, I've heard they havn't been playing Fake Plastic Trees recently which is a shame. Same goes with the Monkeys who seem to have cast off Mardy Bum etc.
