I'm not sure how many V forum users have heard the album yet, or if they're even interested in it.

but listening to it in its entirity the other day made me so jealous of reading and leeds because it really is something. they've matured into real artists and have created easily the best british record of the past 5 years.

EDIT: i forgot to make the plea for your thoughts an opinions on arctic monkeys and the new record ( :

I saw the Arctic Monkeys in Vienna a couple of months ago. They played about 6 or 7 new songs. At the time I wasn't keen on them, crying lightning being my favourite of them all. That said its difficult to judge new songs based on a live performance so maybe it will be a good album. They seem to be trying to make longer songs with more of an anthem feel now compared to the old short and sharp tunes.

Have only heard Crying Lighting, and if the rest is like this song then the album should be excellent.

Very Jealous they are playing at Reading/Leeds instead of V, hopefully next year.

First few listens i was very disappointed, was hoping for a bit more drive similar to the first 2 albums. All very different except for the stand out Pretty Visitors. Little bit samey but having heard the album in full a few times more i have to agree with the original post-ee. Its good to see a band come out of their comfort zone for a change. Bit like a heavier Shadow Puppets but loving the new lyrical style and riff lead tunes. Hopefully see em at V next year!!

Not heard the album yet but can't wait. Phenomenal band. Saw them at Reading a few years ago (just before Muse) and in Manchester and were brilliant. Can't imagine how good Reading is gonna be this year with them on after the Prodigy...jesus!

i'm quite surprised at the negative reaction. cornerstone is turners most beautiful song yet and the heavy josh homme stuff is their most driving material. the only reservation i have personally is the lyrics are as sharp as ever but they no longer display turners unqiue ability to socially comment. apart from that i love it, i dont wana be one of those idiots who doesnt like it cos it isnt the first album, turners evolving as an musician and his material just keeps getting fresher!

Nothing to do with them getting so big to give them some backlash i first saw them before the first albulm came out and seen them 8 times in total. The problem with the new albulm is its just not good, i personally dont think the slight change in direction has worked Im a fan of josh homme and his other projects and you can hear that influance, but i just dont think it has worked for the arctics.
