from the rakes review:

"Donohoe, not looking in his right frame of mind, from what vice was not clear, quipped to fans, "Heard the good news about Michael Jackson?" With this, a sour note was left on the audience, with even diehard fans struggling to ignore that tasteless comment.

Faces of much of the audience turned into cringes, some laughing in despair at the tastelessness, and some boos even began to ring out, but this didn't detract from what, musically, was a good display from the band."

This is simply Bullshit, the author is obviously an MJ fan and justly upset which has clouded his/her judgement, but this is simply not what happened, when Alan said it, a big cheer went up, there wasn't "cringes" and "laughing in despair." people took it in good humour.

i couldn't disagree more strongly with the streets review. i only saw them by accident and had forgotten how good they are live. i was compelled to stay to the end. i was miles up the back and everyone there seemed to be loving it too.

maybe the reviewer had a leaky tent or something clouding his mood.

A review is just one persons take on a show or gig, out of many 1000's of people that watch a gig there will be many different opinions & not everyone will agree.

Also if it is a band you like a lot it tends to make a negative review difficult to take.

Having said that I have yet to see a good festival appearance by the Streets yet I thought their Roundhouse show early this year/last year was excellent.

It's true - Main Stage has many more folk who mark their spot with a chair for the day. What amazed me was the old fellow during Crosby Stills and Nash, in the inner circle with wifey clearly dancing away happily, who stubbornly refused to get up and lay there reading. A lot of people ended up walking over him.

Didn't see you this year Ben incidentally (no I didn't see Will Young again). Make the meets? Good general fest?

I was at the Wednesday meet, and naturally enough had no idea about a Scots' meet. I had a meh Sunday cos I stopped drinking after Back to the Planet and started feeling blue about it all, but was not usual practice, just being an overconscientious Des. Why are your Sundays always bad?

i dunno, they just always have been. first only really turned bad in the evening. last years sunday was horrificly bad. and this years i just felt like shit and wanted to go home. think im givin it a miss next year unless something special comes out the bag.

think it was strongbow man i saw at the meet actually. was only at it for a couple hours, if that. no too sure what i did after.

Festivals are unpleasant places if you're pining to be elsewhere. Had the urge to up and leave in a previous one, feeling trapped there, but all came good.

Have checked my meet photos and think I've found one of you - but I was shooting standing people from a comfy position against a wall at the time. Harry was there too.

well ive seen two poor photos of me so far. im sure you can complete the hat trick  i had a bumbag if that helps. no one seemed to be following me in my cool trend

its no that its cos i wanted to be elsewhere. i just felt shit and then wanted to be elsewhere. just think its one day too long for me. but then if you dont go that day, you get a crap spot.

 You're probably right, Wednesday arrival seems essential these days. However I will squeeze people with smaller tents into CT on Thursday next year

I had a bumbag - used to store my overgrown camera. Always kept in day-rucksack and never around midriff however.
