Just tried to work out record sales.....

Daft Punk have sold around 13 million worldwide

Kings of Leon had sold around 15 million when they played(before the latest album went massive)

The White Stripes around 10 million when they played

Muse around 5 million when they played!

So by that logic they are easily big enough. I read somewhere that ME said that next year will be like any other year(could be bollox obviously). You won't find an electronic act with more influence in modern popular music than Daft Punk, they have heavily influenced the dance world and have influence in pop and hip hop. Even if you don't think you know what they play, I can say with 100% confidence that you will have heard their work in TV, films, radio, other peoples music etc they do get everywhere.

Doubt it will happen mind you but I'd be chuft if they did and everyone that saw them would be won over, there isn't a better act to get everyone dancing!

We all know you dont have to have something in the charts to make headline at Glasto...........especially next year!

And come on.................Ash FFS!..............ASH!!

Of course Im 100% biased toward DP, but I have gone to see DP with those who did not care much, or anything at all, for them and at the end of the gig every single person is blown away, impressed and converted...........

I actually dont like listning to DPs later stuff on my headphones, but put it all in the Live context and it works ubber well!

They are gauranteed to blow all who stand in front of them away..............even if your not into Dance music........trust me I have seen it happen!

JBN Sound Ceiling is what I was on about earlier. The sound travels vertically, top down. You step from under the speakers and you can hardly hear it. No idea on cost but should swerve any license issues with regard to noise pollution allowing for better louder less polluted sound in the dance village at least.

That's all well and good if popularity is constant.

It's not.

You need to release something before the headline slot so that your in people's minds and you attract people which aren't already fans.

In around a year before they played:

Muse released a no.1 album, one top 10 single and two top 20 singles

White Stripes released a no.3 album and one top 10 single

Kings of Leon released a no.1 album and two top 20 singles

(hypothetically) Daft Punk released nothing

Yeah thats if they release one in the next year (will they?), if it gets in the top 5 (the last one didn't) and if they have some hit singles (the last top 20 single they had was 8 years ago) then yes they would be big enough to headline.

The difference is, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen are global superstars. This is the first time i've evern heard of 'Daft Punk'.

I don't think the Pyramid headline slot should be a chance for someone to make a name for themselves. I think it should be a slot for a band who have already made a name for themselves as a reward.

I think they are big enough to play on the Pyramid, but agree it needs to be tied in with an album and it probably wouldn't happen on the 40th anniversary. If Coldplay could headline in 2002, and Moby in 2003, I don't see why DP couldn't in 2012 or something, if they get their fingers out and make another album.

Surely you're joking? Daft Punk are massively famous, they made their name years ago and are generally considered to be one of the greatest electronic acts,

I prefer music like Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen but I really don't know how someone attending Glastonbury and contributing to a festival forum can be so ignorant.

Daft Punk are not massively famous, though, because if they were i would have heard of them. Simple as. But i can see why you think they are. I think Fedor Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva and Minatauro Nogueira are massively famous...but 99.9% of people here won't have heard of them.

I resent being called ignorant, especially due to the fact that i've searched for new, different music in every corner of the world.

To me, saying Daft Punk is the greatest electronic act ever is like saying Hossein Rezazadeh is the best weightlifter ever. He may be, but what does that actually mean to me? Not that much, tbh. That may make my slightly ignorant but i believe i can also accuse everyone else here of being ignorant of MMA and weightlifting lol.
