exactly what I mean about the hypocrisy

"I don't like Dohery, therefore his drug use is unacceptable

I do like <insert name of favourite band> therefore their drug use is acceptable/the stuff of legend"

eh? Get yourself a eye/brain/sense test (delete as applicable). Between your first post saying that and this post, there's been no comment on whether his drug use is acceptable or not.

The fact is he hasn't killed anyone. He is very important to a lot of people out there and has made a massive impact on music. He may be a junkie but to promote and endorse the death of a junkie is pathetic. I'm sure there are people on this forum who have been in similar situations or know people who have. Theres no difference its just his face is always in the media which is something out of his control.

I know whats going to happen, he'll be let off with a caution, then this time next year he'll be arrested again and we will have this whole discussion again because Babyshambles/Libertines/Peter (;)) Doherty have been booked.

If he can't sort himself out, then he belongs in prison. Simple as that.

Could say lots but I'll leave it at this:

1. There seems to be collective anmesia on this thread that Peter did actually go to prison last year so it's hardly like he's gone unpunished.

2. He's always introduced himself as Peter. "Pete" is a tabloid creation.

3. Peter and Carl were never planned to play together last Saturday at Camden Rocks. Had they done so it would have been entirely spontaneous. But their not doing so was nothing to do with Peter being arrested the previous day.

4. There is no 'reunion' planned for Glastonbury.

5. I am NOT condoning drink driving AT ALL. He's actually never been arrested for it before though, other driving offences yes but not DIU. No, I don't know how either.

6. Yes Neil, he has sold stories to the tabloids and that was bloody stupid of him as well. But that's what heroin/crack addicts do when they need £500 in a hurry. Either that or rob cars/mug people.

I have no idea why otherwise intelligent people get so hysterical about this.

He has? The libertines were a cut above the rest of the indie bands around at that time, but quite frankly everything he's done since then with Babyshambles and solo has been average and forgettable at best.

He's just another red-top column filler, if it weren't for his overly publicised drug addiction and the fact that he's screwing Kate Moss he'd have faded into obscurity years ago.

100% incorrect.

All I did was state this truth, nowt more. There's no need for your over-defensive sniffiness. ;)

The max sentence for possession of a class A drug is 7 years so I would say that, since he is a repeat offender and has commited other crimes, a couple of years is justified.

;);) :lol;

While I'd like a couple of Pete-free years (or even decades), I'm not sure I've ever read such a ridiculous comment on these forums. Really, get over yourself.

A month is hardly enough considering how many times he has been caught, and considering how little effect it obviously had.

The courts aren't giving out custodials for possession only at the moment, simple as. Mainly because the prisons are full. You have to get done for intent to supply at the moment to get a custodial.

In addition a lot of drugs professionals are of the opinion that banging up addicts isn't actually the best way to cure them.

if only life were so simple

really, it is just that simple.

A junkie only stops being a junkie when they want to stop being a junkie. You can put them thru rehab a thousand times, but it'll be to no effect unless they want to stop. And while rehab is helpful with helping people stop that want to stop, it doesn't make a huge amount of difference - the change has to be within the person first, and if it is then it's there rehab or no rehab.
