I would so disagree with this. Trent will be remebered as one of the greats in time for the music he makes, easily up there with Radiohead artisticly.

David Bowie has compared his impact to that of The Velvet Underground and he has appeared in things like Time magazines most influential people etc. In years to come I really think people will look back on him as one of the most important artists of all time.

MAybe he will in america but in britian where teh festival is taking place his profile is far lower and nowhere near the likes of thom yorke or alex turner. He could probably walk through a town cente relatively unnoticed and the proportion of the 18-30 age group who could name a nin song is tiny. I enjoyed there performance but to the majority of festival goers at this particulalr festival they werent really relevant anymore.

I find it funny how out of touch with the festival people on this board can be. Usually overestimating the populairty of a rock/metal band and underestimating the popularity of a band who doesnt fit this genre. What is there to suggest kaiser chiefs would be less of a draw at reading/leeds than faith no more. I would agree it would be true at download but the reading/leeds demographic is completely different. Kaiser chiefs have sold more records than faith no more in the uk both combined and in the last few years. Kaisers chiefs have had bigger singles in the uk and you can be sure that far more people could name 3 kc songs than could fnm. Also leeds would be a home performance for kc which would also enhance the size of the crowd. I personally would rather wathc fnm than kaiser chiefs but you cant ignore the facts especially after seeing crowd sizes for the likes of manics, pixies, smashing punpkins and nin over recent years, i wouldnt be at all surprised if glasveags got a bigger crowd.

I get what you are saying in the first paragraph but you obviously know nothing about NIN with your comments in the second paragraph. NIN have sold well over 20 million albums just in the US alone, they have out sold KOL by a mile.

Pretty Hate Machine, The Downward Spiral and The Fragile piss all over every KOL album that has been made and I've liked KOL from the begining. Go away, lock yourself in a room and listen to the 3 NIN albums I have quoted above for a month and come back and tell me that NIN have never made a great album.

The best music is not always the easiest to listen to, the Fragile took me a good 6 months of constant listening to understand and appreciate what a great album it was.

Will KOL still be playing high up/headlining festival bills 20+ yearson like NIN?

People just get pissed when something becomes too mainstream. Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party anymore. Yet the more unusual artists on the bill ie. alternative YYY, Placebo or rock ie. deftones get more hype due to it being seen as "better" to listen to these.

I'm really surprised about how people seem to think that everyone on this forum hates KoL and Bloc Party. I've expressed several times that I'm a fan of them both (although not particularly KoL's latest, don't hate it either mind), usually with other people seeming to agree.

Kings of Leon are great.

Especially if you have trouble sleeping. They are one of the few bands that you could fall asleep to while on your feet. They are incredibly boring live. They were boring before their last album and they continue to be boring now.

This is just my opinion.

I went to see The Specials last week and I can honestly say it was one of the best gigs I've been to. Bands less than half their age could learn a lot. The whole venue (every single one) was moving through the whole set. Brilliant perfomance and brilliant set.

Makes KoL seem even duller

Green Day seem to be loved but I think thay are god awful these days, even worse with the latest stuff. Foo Fighters also seem to be loved and they have to be one of the most middle of the road bands around, despite how likeable Mt Grohl maybe.

It's this mentality that I feel is what defines the difference between fans of "Indie" and fans of hard rock/punk/metal. One (potentially two) poor (but successfull) album(s) and Green Day are suddenly "God Awful". This is why we're limited to a third year of Bloc Party, the "if it's not shiny and new it's worthless". Not pointing fingers here, but when AC/DC were rumoured there was a disturbing amount (a few on here and loads on the official forums) of "past it's" and "no dinosaur bands" flying around.

Green Day have a fantastic back catalogue, "Kerplunk", "Dookie", "Insomniac" and "Nimrod" are quality albums and the rest, while not perfect are not bad either. My only gripe with Green Day has been their post "American Idiot" approach to live setlists, which appear to be attempting to appeal more to the "new and shiny" music fan, I am glad I had the priveledge to see them before AI as the two times I've saw them after it's release they played the entire album and left out previous live favourite "2000 Lightyears" as well as a few other better songs.

Foo Fighters again worked damn hard to get to where they are today. It would have been easy for Dave Grohl to use his Nirvana background to get ahead, but they have never (as far as I know) played any Nirvana songs live, and it's easy to forget that the band started as a bit of fun for Dave and on the first recording he played every instrument!.

In terms of Reading, Foo Fighters, despite being incredibly popular, didn't headline until 2002, 7 years after their first appearance. Showing progress up the stages rather than prematurely being given the headlining spot on a silver platter like, ooh let's say The Arctic Monkeys and to a lesser extent KOL (there has been progress but it's still been fast tracked) :)
