*Edit-in reference as to why DEP can't play

From http://www.laurahird.com/bestrecords/dilli...escapeplan.html

'This is a band who, when faced with their biggest ever audience and a chance to woo the fickle UK critics with performance on the main stage at the 2002 Reading Festival – chose instead to make an artistic statement.

“You’re going to see a lot of shit on this stage today,” said pitbull-necked singer, Greg Puciato, dropping his pants and squatting, in reference to the line-up of stodgy corporate US rock bands. “You might as well see some more.”

With onstage cameras beaming the image onto giant screens, over their Sunday breakfasts fifty thousand people were treated to the close-up sight of the flexing anus of the frontman as he squeezed out a link, wrapped it in a carrier bag and threw it into the crowd, who promptly threw it back. It was the single greatest rock n’ roll moment the UK has seen this decade.'

just to piss on more people's parades i'm pretty sure dillinger can be taken off the wishlist too as they were banned for life from playing reading, unless the FR guys lighten up and let them off because they would most certainly steal the show...

ah good! yeah i remember seeing frank on the stage, dive dive are his band, done a gig with both (on seperate occasions though) back in the day, pretty much my only claim to fame!

i'm sure good ol' mr turner will be back again this year too, probably nme stage, though i think he'd make quite a nice act to go on early(ish) on the main stage actually, on a nice sunny day we could all have a sing-along to kick off the days music festivities...

looking at this years main stage it looks like another 3 more bands will be added to AM's day, 3 more to Radiohead's (as i imagine they will do a long set) day and 4 more to KOL's day.

despite what people say these bands could be slotted in almost anywhere (i say almost as it's highly unlikely the prodigy will get bumped any lower....they should have headlined IMO) but it is likely they will be lower down.

REALISTICALLY (ish) what bands would you like to fill in the gaps. you have to consider them 'fitting in' and the time of day etc.

personally i would like to see......

Friday....ocean colour scene, elbow, doves and the rifles

Sat.....super furry animals, dogs, 1990's and cold war kids

Sun...death cab for cutie, weezer and someone loud and fun like mad caddies!

most people will disagree with the bands i have chosen but what would your dream for the rest of the main stage line up be?

a lot of people are quick to slag off the line up so far but you just don't know yet....there is a long way to go!

rob (ever the optimist!) x

the line up so far is not quite to my taste, but i wouldnt say its shite, how about

Friday, The Specials, The Editors, Mystery Jets

Saturday, The Pogues, The Cribs, Kooks

Sunday, Madness, Elbow, Billy Idol

then swap Radiohead, Kings of Leon and the Arctics for Oasis, The Killers and Metallica,

What a blissfull weekend it would be!!!!!

(Im still praying for the specials though?!!!)

    • Absolutely second this. Were great at Big Weekend and already have a great catalogue of songs forming so far. Would love to see them on the farm!
    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
