Metallica are overdue an appearance (if you go by their track record with Download), Pearl Jam are possible I suppose, Blink 182 might headline to make up for splitting before they were announced in 2005, Tool could be around, NIN might be tempted by a headlining slot, as might RATM, AC/DC might fancy a Donington show for old times sake (if DL is still at Donington) Maiden might be about again, and that's all before you factor in the long awaited return of My Chemical Romance ( )

So theoreticly plenty of options in terms of headliners (though hopefully MCR has gone down as a mistake that won't be repeated).

I've been thinking in my head recently about potential new rumours for this year's Download. I thought about how Chris Cornell pulled out of Download last year only to return this year. It then occurred that Masters of Reality self-confirmed for Download last year but then cancelled to record a new album, exactly as Cornell did.

Have looked to see if any potential of them playing this year, but new album is out on 24th August - which would suggest more likely for Leeds/Reading.

Anyone heard anything to suggest MoR playing Download this year, that I'm not aware of? Would love to see this band if the opportunity came about. Not holding my breath though.

that sounds like BULLSHIT to me. a No Doubt comeback (ok, so they didn't technically split but they've done f**k all in YEARS) AND a Blink comeback on the same tour, as support bands?!

they could both do their own headline comeback tours in some pretty big venues....

i'll believe that when i see it...

No Doubt have a new album out this year and have already played in the US this month at a festival and are touring the US all summer with Paramore supporting

So yeah they are back and they are active

Even so that is bullshit

Green Day, Blink and No Doubt will all do seperate world tours because the demand for each act is there

Next year Smashing Pumpkins will definatly be one of the headliners IMO, done Reading and Leeds, working on another album even though it is just Billy on his own now, Im not sure would get Sonisphere headline slot, dunno?

So...

-Smashing Pumpkins will headline either Download or Sonisphere

-Muse will headline Reading and Leeds

-Green Day will headline Reading and Leeds too I think

-Foo Fighters? hmm not sure, don't know how long their hiatus is for

-No Doubt aren't headline material

-Blink 182 will probably headline Download or Sonisphere, can't see Reading booking both Green Day and Blink

-If Rammstein do tour and do fests theres a good chance Download might nab them, no chance they would be booked for Reading

The last time they did festivals and its also the ONLY time and I saw them too ;) was in 2002

This was during the height of their hey baby times and were everywhere

They played 4th down on main stage at TITP

and they played 6th down on main stage at Glasto

They aren't any bigger now, I can't see them jumping up to headline material, yes they play very few dates, but I think they will do a huge European tour at the end of the year, If Limp Bizkit can come back and play 3rd down at Download I can see No Doubt in the same kind of spot as they may have a cult loyal fanbase [im included in that] but they are also a bit of a flash in the pan, hot band at the moment group - Don't Speak and Hey Baby being two high points, but Return of Saturn album did crap here]

    • So bad honestly. I get that bad weather happens but their communication was non existent. When you're managing crowds of tens of thousands of people, it's just not good enough. I left when Massive Attack was cancelled (the first time) and it genuinely did feel unsafe trying to get out. No one knew what was going on, people still sitting in the ground when there were hoards of people trying to leave, no crowd management at all...   I've been to PS enough times to know sometimes you need to just roll with it but this was way worse than "the bar queue was 30 minutes long".    Today will be better but still feel super disappointed.
