This is all stupid

Neil Young is neither a special one off exclusive that could only happen at a place as great at glastonbury because its full of music officinardos (retardo's) with great taste, nor an act not fit to headline

He's headlining 2 other UK festivals this year alone, has just headlined Big Day Out in Aus, and has headlined festivals all over the place, to say he's not a headline act is stupid.

However the last thing Glastonbury should ever be is a festival for the over 30's i couldn't think anything worse and the line up anouncements so far have been weighted too far in favour of classic acts, but once some more big names are released with an appeal to younger audience all will be right in the world

What do people even mean by up-to-date? Bruce Springsteen's last album was number one in the UK for two weeks, and hit the top spot in the States and most of mainland Europe. It was released last month.

Isn't that up to date?

There are a load of threads like this in the main Glasto forum by the way.

Some people on here are unbearable. And I say this knowing I'll get wrath from most. It is hard to try and say something on here that goes against the general consensus.

Neil Young is a genius no question, same for Bruce and Blur are one of the most underrated bands (and my favourite) of all time . I am so excited to be given the opportunity to see them all. But is it wrong for people to want to see their own favourite artists at Glastonbury? Be it Killers or be it Coldplay or be it Arctic Monkeys or even the Stereophonics (let me make it clear, as some of my past posts have been terribly misconstrued, that none of which appeal to me).

Simply saying go to V or go to Reading is, frankly, a tired statement. If they wanted to go to Reading or V they would. People choose Glasto because it is the best place in the world. I really believe that, I've been going for years. But for people to constantly belittle people's wishes to see some more 'trendy' bands makes these boards seem horrendously snobby at times.

now that's not quite true is it. The reason people got on your back is because you called Neil Young "substandard" and "a bore".

If you don't like an act don't watch it. Why come on here and try and spoil other peoples excitement by dragging them down with negativity? Are you really that bitter?

Blur, BS and NY are all big headling acts I am a little surprised they are all headlining at the same festival and that there are no ''new headliners'' for the Friday (as usually happens.) I think that what has happened is that the feelers went out and eveyone said yes, shock horror headliners for the pyramid done. How long has this line up been touted on the rumours page? This has gives the other stages a lot more time to work on getting the acts in, since the people booking the pyramid also book other stages. Though with rumours of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Fleetwood Mac, Squeeze, the Blockheads and BB King alot of oldies (many of whom I would love to see)

What is with Stereophonics ??

I bought their 1st album back in the day -it was OK. BUT.....how can they be suggested as a more relevant/up to date /current act than N Young or Springsteen ?

Is it just age ?- in which case, its nonsense.

Or is it the "older" acts are a bit "dad-rock" in the preceived opinion of some - in which case - get onyoutube, look at any recent N Young sets - compare the level "fire-in-the-belly" performance to the strummalong, gravelly voiced tosh the streobores psuh nowadays....and think about it for a few seconds......

C'mon? Is one posters negative commnets really going to spoil your excitement for the act?Spoil away Wanderei.Completely diagree with you though regarding Neil Young and think you need to re-evaluate his work by spending some time with his albums.Get "on the beach" and listen to it regaularly for a week then get back on here and say he's substandard.

To answer the question...No

Stereophonics are a bog standard rock band at best, I’d draw the curtains if they were playing in my back garden. The thought of singing along to Have a Nice Day is depressing.

Unfortunately there are not enough good new bands with decent back catalogues to carry the weight of headlining i'm afraid.the arctic monkeys experiment was a disaster (and i'm a fan). Only the kings of leon or coldplay are bands of the last 10 years with the appeal and back catalogue to get away with headlining. Not a huge fan of coldplay but think KOL have serious heavyweight potential...unfortunately both bands have headlined before or played recently so theres a limited spread of new artists that could play to cater for the "younger audience".

Arctic Monkeys were quality in 2007. Don't understand why people thought they were poor.

I'm over 40 and have no interest whatsoever in seeing Neil Young or Bruce Springsteen (might just see Blur if it doesn't clash with anything I'd like on one of the smaller stages) but that's fine. There are loads of stages & TBH I'd rather the bands I do like play on the smaller stages so I can enjoy seeing them.

Big thanks to dvjj the spelling/grammar fairy. But it's a bit rich for someone who produces a sentence like this -
