Superbly done - & remember 1:45 is just an arbitrary number, it's going faster than ever before that counts.

Ha ha! :(

i shall have to remember that one when i'm dragging my sorry ass round the streets of Berlin trying to beat my aim of 4hrs 20mins...

New 10k PB on sunday morning. 48m 21s. :(

Anyone else race this weekend? How is everyone's training coming along?

FLMers happy with their preparation?

Great time, I'm hoping to get near 50 minutes this year (currently PB is 52.29). Well done.

Got the Balmoral 10K this weekend, round the grounds of the castle. Its up a mountain so no PBs this weekend, but its a cracking 10K.

i've upped my distance to 2 miles now, running it in about 18 minutes...

it is gonna be yearssssssssssss before i do a marathon

Nightcrawler - this time last year I hadn't done more than run for a bus in my entire life. So it's totally possible!

I'm not entirely happy with my preparation - stupid injuries meant i haven't actually done more than 15m. So it's going to be an interesting day on sunday! But I'll be getting to that finish line by hook or by crook, I don't care how long it takes me!

Me neither, but I too will be making it round if I have to crawl!!!

HOORAY!

I am a strange mixture of excited yet utterly, utterly terrified. Also the forecast looks like it's going to be a scorcher which I am praying is wrong as I'm terrible at running in the heat and it's going to be hard enough as it is!

If it all goes to plan what sort of time are you aiming for? I've not done any further than 15 miles in training and I must admit I havent done that as many time as I wouldve liked. Done a few half marathons and a few ten milers with plenty of 5-8 milers too so it's not been a disaster. In a perfect world I would like to do somewhere between 4 and 4.30 but I think I may be being over optimistic.

Weatherwise it was really hot when I did it in '07 and it slowed me down alot, but we will finish either way and that is a big enough achievement!

Final week nerves/doubts are a bugger because there is sod all you can do about them!!

I'm pretty much the same as you - I've done my long runs alternate weekends with an easy weekend in between which totalled: a couple of 10-milers, a half-mara, a 15-miler and then what was meant to be the final 18miler but ended up with an upset stomach and hideously painful knees and had to call it a day at 13 miles. I would and should have done way more but I pushed a bone out of place in my foot which buggered all the tendons and I had to have 5 weeks off my training programme, then it took me ages to get back up to speed, hence I'm really behind. Boo.

Oh I'm not in any way quick though - best case scenario I think I'd be looking at about 5 hours 10 - I think I'm probably looking at around 5 and a half hours but if it's really hot, and frankly I've got no idea what it's like to run above 15 miles, I don't really care if I have to walk the rest of the way. I'd like to finish in under 6 hours though!

I am not sure I've ever been so nervous about anything in my entire life! Keep checking the weather forecast like some strange obsessive!

Don't worry you will be fine!! The atmosphere on the day is electric it's like a big party. My biggest tip would be get your name on your running top somehow, having thousands of people cheering your name helps out - ALOT especially around the 20 mile mark, made me burst into tears when they got me through my wall last time!! Good look for a grown man lol.

Cool I did it in 5.27.32 last time so I will just see what I get on the day! Am by no means a professional runner, barely amateur!

Have you got people coming to watch you run on Sunday? If they have internet enabled phones then they can track you as you run!!

It's all very clever here's the official stuff about it and instructions. My supporters are going to be using it to know whether I've gone past them or not!!

Adidas have devised a way to follow runners this year in the London Marathon. Simply text ‘RUN’ to 83040 and you will be sent a link to the wapsite. Simply type in you runner’s race number and the system will do the rest, tracking them via a timing chip device on their shoes as they pass the various 5k markers along the course and informing you of their progress.’

I heard the hot stuff was going at the weekend. Hope I'm right cos as you say it'll be harder in the sun, but suspect you're more up-to-date.

Anyway, good luck to you & themuel. May it be damnedly enjoyable.

Well??

How did everyone get on? I had a blast, watched from Greenwich, Mudchute, Westferry, and Tower Hill. Cracking atmosphere as usual - just hope I'm lucky in the ballot this time. Roll on October!

Hope all efesters got round safely and aren't in too much agony now

4.50.18

Happy with that considering how hot it was! Didnt have a walking break until mile 18, then I had to do quite alot of walking because my back was agony which slowed me down. Still more than happy with my time though, almost 40 mins shaved off last time!

My poor knees are feeling it now though, although I'm alot better than yesterday so on the road to recovery!!

Loved every second of it, London shines on marathon day, everyone is so so friendly and supportive. Can't wait for my next one!!! I am chasing the sub 4 hour. Tough challenge for me!

A slightly awful 5.56 for me. That said, a full 20 minutes of that was wasted by 10 mins in a toilet queue at mile 17 and 10 minutes um, in a toilet at mile 21. But to be honest I am mostly just totally chuffed to have got to the finish line -that was my main goal. I started out really strongly, went through the half mara point in 2.35, was fine until mile 17 and then just crashed and burned. But I was sort of expecting that - I've only been running 9 months, hadn't done more than 15m in training, and my legs just didn't have it in them.

Crowd support was totally brilliant though. Got to overtake Katie Price and Peter Andre really early on in which was definitely a highlight. Got blessed TWICE by different priests flicking holy water. Had so many people yelling my name, particularly down embankment when I was really flagging and it helped so so much. I have utter respect for anyone daring to do it in fancy dress, particularly the heavier outfits - I was in so, so much pain just trying to do it in normal gear!

I've entered the ballot for next year - I reckon with a good solid year's running experience between now and then I can crack a sub-5 and I really want to have another go to improve my time.

But what an amazing experience! I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone

Priests flicking holy water  Sorry, just sounds like a mean trick, despite it surely being actually really helpful.

Anyway, nicely done. You and Muel both sound like you had a great time despite the hard work. Much like everything I read about it. & entry for next year's is open already, or is that just for this year's runners?

    • Absolutely second this. Were great at Big Weekend and already have a great catalogue of songs forming so far. Would love to see them on the farm!
    • A mixed first day for us. First of all, we were honestly quite shocked that there was no security check at all at the VIP entrance around 7:30 PM. No bag check, nothing. I’ve attended Primavera many times over the years and this felt surprisingly lax for an event of this size. Did anyone else experience the same?   Another disappointment was the communication regarding the weather situation. Primavera has some of the best sound systems and speaker setups in the festival world, yet somehow they were not able to make a single clear announcement explaining what was happening. Instead, people were expected to read tiny messages on screens in Mordor while thousands were left wondering what was going on. A simple and direct audio announcement would have gone a long way.   On a lighter note, this guy absolutely made my day. Sitting right in front of the Estrella Damm terrace, wearing nothing but a long-sleeve shirt, jeans and a pair of Converse All Stars, he remained completely unbothered by the rain. While everyone else was looking for shelter, he sat there wearing sunglasses, calmly watching the crowd as if he was watching a movie.   Absolute main character energy!
    • I think my party got pretty lucky last night, at least compared to some of the horror stories over on Reddit. I was very impressed with Father John Misty in particular.   Perhaps my view would be different if I were a big Massive Attack fan or whatever, but right now my feeling is that if it's not safe for the shows to go ahead... then it's not safe for the shows to go ahead. I'd much rather they were cautious than roll the dice when it comes to something like that.    Here's hoping everyone has a better day today.
    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
