  1. 1 bottle of duty free whiskey on my way in. It's fine to drink neat if you can't find some ice. can add it to a mixer or a cider as well.
  2. At Coachella (which I would never attend again if you paid me) it's even worse than this. Yes you have to go through security every day from the campsite, but also, once you're in you're in. If you go back to your tent for any reason you forfeit the day. They don't let you on the grounds until noon, so everyone queues in the hot sun all day until they can get in. It's so hot in the desert, that they actually have someone coming by the tents to make sure you're not in there past 8am because they don't want people to pass out from the heat. So basically you have 4 hours to kill in a queue every day. Get searched. can't go back. and then once you're in - you can only drink alcohol in the beer tent or in designated areas. No alcohol in front of the stages. It's actually quite ridiculous.
  3. I stood next to Eugene at the Nick Cave show the other night. I should have asked him! He brought a massive bouquet of flowers for Nick, it was really sweet.
  4. WH Lung havent been announced yet but they told me they'd be there. They put on a hell of a show, and I for one won't be missing it if I can help it
  5. I'd say Joni Mitchell but she can't really sing anymore - but if her voice were to magically get better I'd go anywhere she played. So, barring Joni, Fleetwood Mac or REM. And the legend slot to Annie Lennox or Missy Elliott
  6. The thing that Glastonbury has going for it that almost no other festival has, is that they've created an environment that everyone wants to spend time in no matter who is on the bill. I was having a cup of tea one evening in the Healing Fields with a woman about 25 years my senior a few years back and she told me she'd been to every single Glastonbury apart from 3 or 4 of them. She said she hadn't watched any of the bands in years, and didn't really plan to. She just wants to be there. It's the Glastonbury spirit we all talk about, you know? I've never heard anyone talk about the "V Festival Spirit" or lord help us all, the "Coachella Spirit" - it doesn't exist - at least not in the same way. Those festivals have to rely on the bands to help them sell their overpriced tickets and takeaway food. Increasingly, (and speaking as an american here) I think we are seeing the worst parts of capitalism in our everyday lives, and that in conjunction with some terrible global events taking place, and being surrounded by so much inauthenticity in media - of course Glastonbury sells out in 10 minutes. I'm not saying that the festival is by any means this utopian society or anything, but I think a lot of you will agree with me that when you get on that farm, it's like a salve. And then to know that so many people had to come together to make this thing, this CITY, that only exists for 5 days a year... it's mind blowing. One year I was camping next to first timers, and on the Monday morning as we were all putting our tents away I asked them how their festival was. They said "Do you know that in the entire 5 days we didn't hear anyone having an argument about anything?" It struck me - I'd never thought about that, but as it happened I don't think I did either. Now I pay attention to that when I'm there, and it's the strangest thing. I don't think I've overheard an argument there ever. I mean, of course people have argued at Glasto, but when you think 200,000 people, half of them exhausted and drinking and taking all kinds of things... Disney needs to drop that "Happiest Place on Earth" BS because it sure isn't Disney - my money's on Glasto. ok end rant lol
  7. strummerville is awesome and often overlooked in the wee hours. it's a hell of a hike, but always worth it. and then of course, you can make an entire evening of the rabbit hole and the crows nest
  8. I'd bet money Katy J Pearson shows up somewhere - maybe WIlliams Green. She has a date in Bristol on the Sunday, but other than that there's a glasto sized hole in the schedule.
  9. well, looks like Annie has other shows on the saturday and sunday so that leaves her out. But Phoebe still a possibility
  10. Well, the NYC Downlow has hidden/not so hidden "dark rooms" where pretty much anything goes, if that's your thing. I never would have thought it was my thing until stumbled in one year. It was quite a surprise! I was thinking about Shangri La in 2010 the other day, and how the theme was essentially a pandemic. I remember all the folks dressed up as nurses and doctors giving out shots in 'syringes". And of course there was the slumberrave which was a blast. There were all kinds of folks hanging out in the tunnels (I miss the tunnels).
  11. 2004 was my first year too. I don't remember the buying process really - I just remember thinking we didn't get them. maybe a month before the festival I was going over a credit card statement and saw that I'd been charged for the tickets. I called and sure enough, we'd bagged them and never even knew. Never got a confirmation email or anything. Now, I live in NYC and back then, international tickets weren't sent out in the post - you had to pick them up in castle cary. In 2004 I had never even been to the UK let alone Glastonbury Festival, but my friend and I planned a last minute trip over all the same and we had the time of our lives. So much we didn't plan for though. We don't drive, and once we got to Castle Cary, we hadn't planned on how to get to the festival site - we hitch hiked and someone brought us. Also, our flight back to the US was out of Heathrow at 14:00 on the monday after, which we made by the skin of our teeth. We must have smelled amazing. Good times
  12. The Park, for sure is where I spend the most time. Kinda mad because I tend to camp on Big Ground, completely opposite. After the park, I'd have to say either Williams Green or John Peel, followed by the Pyramid
  13. touche lol. I'm out of upvotes for today sadly.
  14. I would be so thin if I was able to walk through there all the time
  15. there was a moroccan stall somewhere in the SE corner a few years back that was life-changing. Never found it on subsequent years, but I always look for it. looking forward to some daal fromthe Hare Krishna tent too. It's tradition.
  16. I wonder if he will have guests on stage to do some of the III stuff. Phoebe Bridgers and Annie Clark will be there
  17. I did 2010 and 2014 alone I'm not bothered spending time with myself so for me it was fine. I didn't do any of the meetups (probably should have) but made friends with tent neighbors and enjoyed not having any pressure to do anything but what I wanted to do. It was a great time. I'd absolutely do it alone again
  18. PJ Harvey & Harry Styles. Together or separate ill take them either way
  19. I watched James Blake instead and still kinda regret it. I've seen him loads before and since, and that Adele gig was probably a once in a lifetime
  20. i just booked lunch on the thursday at the deluxe diner. I've never had a meal there - looking forward to it!
  21. Does anyone think we might be lucky enough to get a PJ Harvey appearance? She's announced two "in conversation" appearances for her upcoming book Orlam - one in June in London, one in May in Bath. Considering her "Glasto at home" performance, as well as the fact that the book is topical at least geographically, I am hopeful. Some readings and a chat could be a nice noon slot at the park or something
