I like them as well, in fact I’m going to see them in Glasgow two days after Glastonbury. But I would be hugely surprised to see them headlining the Pyramid in 2024. Just doesn’t feel like they’re still big enough.

Thats what I’m taking it as. I’ve just had a Quick Look on YouTube though, and they’ve several full festival sets (e.g. Rock in Rio, Lollapalooza Chicago) on there and a pro shot gig from London on their last tour available. So it does seem a bit odd to keep choosing Glastonbury clips.

Swift is in the middle of a massive stadium tour that was never going to fit on the Pyramid. Pink presumably wants too much cash and same issue with the stage show. And ‘we’ don’t ‘need fresh and new.’ That’s a ‘you’ thing not a we. There will be thousands and thousands of people who’ve never seen Coldplay or Stevie Wonder anywhere let alone being there when they’ve done Glastonbury in the past. Plus thousands of others like me who have but are still really excited to see them again.

First three albums are superb. Since then there’s been a couple of really good tracks on each album but a definite drop off. A lot of bands do that I suppose. Saw them in 2018 in Glasgow and they were great, but I knew what to expect. So I wasn’t surprised by the lack of forced banter and enjoyed that they rattled through 25 songs, sounding really good. Not sure that translates to headlining Glastonbury these days though it worked great in front of their own fans. Needs to be more of a pop show with more bells and whistles to hold the crowds attention. Unless you’ve a sh*t load of well known hits which they don’t really.

Depends on their ego I suppose. Personally I think they’d be a cracking sub (and I like that new single) or Other headliner but it’s whether they’d take that.

I was at that and totally agree, the crowd just wasn’t into it at all. I didn’t go in 2017 but that looked similar. Whereas I was at their Other Stage set in 2010 and that was magnificent.

Same here. I was 16 when that came out and thought it was amazing. Listened to it a few weeks back with 31 more years of life under my belt and it’s absolutely incredible.

Thankfully I don’t think Emily is stupid annd arrogant enough to believe this. They sell a whole package, which includes getting the biggest headliners they possibly can. It’s a delicate balancing act, to start throwing away one of the most popular parts of that package would be lunacy.

This. It’s madness. It sells out because of everything they offer including getting massive headliners. You can see it in the crowds for Elton and the like, meanwhile there’s loads of other good options elsewhere. To arbitrarily stop doing that would be massively arrogant and commercial suicide.

Not for me. I think Houdini is great and deserves to be the big hit it has been.

I don’t feel like the festival has changed all that much since 2010. There was more of a change between my first in 2003 and 2010. As for the idea of a deliberate downgrading in the size and status of headliners they book, that just sends out such an arrogant signal. I think it would shift the unspoken dynamics between the organisers and the ticket buyers. Theres a lot of hassle and a lot of cost and the unwritten promise is they will book the best festival they can. To start going ‘we’re turning away big acts to book less famous ones less of you will want to see but we still want you to cough up the same money’ would be suicide.

I can see the logic but as I currently work at Glasgow Airport and live 3 miles away that sounds like too long a commute 😂

Yep, still plenty of seats and that’s with the top blocks curtained off judging from the map on Ticketbastard. Thats very expensive. This seems to happen quite a lot with Glasgow though. Unless someone is willing to play the SEC itself (which is terrible for gigs) there’s a big gap between the Academy and the Hydro in terms of available venues at the right capacity. When I went to the Hydro for HAIM, Elbow and The National there were decent portions of the upper seats blocked off. But if you’re an act capable of selling roughly 3/4s of the Hydro (as with the latter two) or even half (as with HAIM) there’s nowhere else to go.

Problem is what they did with the screens. Too clever for their own good, when the people at the back just need to see the band as much as possible. I went to the TRNSMT gig a couple of weeks later as did a few others I know up here and you could literally split whether they enjoyed it or not based on how far forward they were. Everyone stuck further back complained about the overly artsy screens. Me and my mate had seen the complaints on here and made sure we were down the front, where it was incredible.

Totally agree. One of my all time favourite bands. I really don’t want them to reform though. It would suit their story and their reputation better to leave it.
