On the surface I’d like to have Coldplay on the Sunday. But OTOH it would entirely screw The National over if they’re the Sunday Night Other headliner. They’d be better off going against SZA (and selfishly it would be less of a clash for me).

Me neither. Plus it makes my Tory mates really angry which is worth a few quid.

They’d be mad not to book Coldplay. They’re basically the most reliable stadium fillers in the world. They aren’t even doing another UK gig this year let alone a festival. It’s 8 years since they last played (even putting aside how entitled the repeat booking complaints sound) and there will be thousands and thousands of people at Glastonbury in 2024 who weren’t there in 2016 or were there but went to something else (waves). They’ll fill the field, play all the hits and everyone will have a great time.

It’s 8 years though. Covid ruined the other calculation.
  5. Idles aren’t playing from what we’ve heard. The same info that put LCD Soundsystem 2nd on the Pyramid had PJ Harvey on before them.

I’ve been to 10 Glastonbury’s and it was absolutely one of the best I’ve ever seen. Incredible sound, great visuals, pretty much the perfect set for a festival crowd.

Given CTRL and SOS two full listens each last few days. Really wanted to love it as I think her voice is superb (that vocal on ‘All the Stars’ is otherworldly IMHO) but while I can appreciate the quality I didn’t quite get there. Irony is I’d go and see her as a sub and probably be quite excited about it but will most likely be dragged away by headliner level options elsewhere. Which isn’t a bad thing actually as I’m a cert for Dua and Coldplay. Hope she smashes it though* *Secretly I still cling to the hope that it’s Olivia Rodrigo but whoever it is, I hope it’s great.
  8. Feel like I’m at a familiar point in the cycle here. As we get close to poster time I have a long list of acts who are touring and could play, that probably couldn’t realistically fit on the bill in appropriate positions. Then when the poster drops I’m disappointed they’re not all there. Then I dig into the names and discover new stuff, and zero in on the big names on the bill I do want to see. Get more and more excited as it gets closer. Then the full line up comes out and loads of them clash. Then I switch to checking the weather forecast every 7 minutes. Then I have an amazing time despite forgetting acts I wanted to see. Its the circle of life.
  9. She’s doing a fantastic job IMO. Hopefully others can follow in her footsteps.
  10. True, but it feeds into Social Media, gets picked up by radio etc
  11. Thats not tin hat. The BRITS are an industry promotional tool, they’ve always been used to push certain artists into the public consciousness.

He does indeed. And I say that as someone who hates him and his music. He’d absolutely nail it.

Get the feeling they haven’t connected. The Durannies haven’t been happy with what’s been offered and there’s an impasse.

Would be a dream legend slot for me. They’d volley it to the moon and back. I’d take the lm headlining if that’s all they’ll do.
  15. Same. I’m not a huge fan of the legend slot generally but I’d be front and centre for Lennox
  16. I got lucky with that one in Glasgow in 2019. My reward for going to both nights at the Kelvingrove Bandstand, the first in biblical rain. The other rewards were the band absolutely rising to the weather and playing a phenomenal gig, and helping Matt get over the barrier when he went out in the crowd, then back the other way.

One of mine definitely. At the end of such a grim day (relatively speaking) it was a real soul burner. Incredible atmosphere.

Same thing happened to me with LCD Soundsystem last time Coldplay were on. Not a huge crowd at the Other but everybody properly up for it

Totally agree. I’ve never understood people loudly proclaiming ‘I’ve never heard of them.’ 1) That isn’t the killer blow you think it is 2) It probably says more about you than the act, their fans, or the people who’ve booked them.

It only looks staid to those lucky enough to go every time Coldplay headline. It’s one of the most ‘first world problem’ type complaints I’ve ever heard. Plus it’s not like repeat bookings dominate the top of the bill. Last 3 festivals have seen Stormzy, Eilish and GNR headline while we seem to be looking at two first timers this year.

Agreed. We’re in a tiny, and very fortunate, minority.

I think it’s a bit entitled TBH. Some of us on here are lucky enough to get to go repeatedly. That won’t be the case for thousands and thousands of others. They won’t be rolling their eyes because ‘oh no it’s Arctic Monkeys again’ or ‘Coldplay again’. This might be a once in a lifetime chance for them to see a huge act they can’t get/afford tickets for. Coldplay for example are just about the most reliable stadium fillers in the world. Having them at the top of the bill as their only U.K. show of the year, is absolutely massive to the average punter. You wouldn’t want them or anyone else booked every other year but it’s been 8 years, that’s not unreasonable (and number of festivals doesn’t matter, Covid broke that calculation). I’d say the same if they’d lined up the Foos or Sheeran or Adele.

“a cross between a Broadway stage musical, Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and a live-action Spongebob Squarepants episode” Is a truly magnificent sub-headline
