    2024 Headliners

The festival's going to have to scale back on the megastar headliners soon, if only because, without repeating R & L style, it's fast running out of acts that are the size of Reg, Stones, U2, Springsteen, Jay-Z, Beyonce etc. Going back to picking acts when they're 2 or 3 albums in and still on the up, the way they had with the likes of Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay, Chems, Blur, Pulp etc. during the late 90's/early 00's. Oldplay have made a fortune out of being absolutely that!
  2. That run of 8-13 would be excellent. 23-24 was played the other way around on the Magic Tour and worked really well. Would love to be at a show with Incident & Rosie in the setlist, but still be a little gutted that they didn't segue together as on the record!
  3. Time he gave us the setlists heavy on the first two albums that the US got in fall 2016.
  4. Only doing 3 this time, as things stand, Cardiff, Milan 2 and London 2. I don't see the setlist changing, and only booked London because it's the last night and I really don't think we'll see him and the band over here again. As for gigs, there are still plenty of great smaller venues to support, providing you live in a city. Can easily take a punt on some new stuff for not much more than a couple of pints.
  5. I need to do my list before some of the tickets from the 90s fade completely and I can't read what they were.
  6. That's great news. Our local venue, Exeter Cavern, survived Covid and seems to be doing OK. Some things have changed though, weekday gigs now seem to finish by 10-10.30 whereas before it wasn't unheard of for the band to come on at that time. Reducing the hours cuts a lot of costs. Also enables, where applicable, a club night to run afterward bringing in a second set of punters looking to have a good time and spend cash. A lot aren't in the lucky situation of being able to do that though.

That Sprints record is class. I had somehow missed them until the album popped up as a suggestion on Spotitheft. Duly ordered it and the Back Catalogue LP they put out too. The Squire/Liam thing is what I expected. If its the strongest track then we could be looking at something as dull as The Seahorses. They should be able to knock something better than that out. Ta for heads up on the Bob Vylan.
  8. You're not wrong about the chipper, most excellent.
  9. There are Rail & Sail tickets available (both Stena & Irish Ferries) for the boat and train. You could do either crossing and train to Bristol then get the shuttle bus from there. It might be long winded but could be a lot of fun too as a decent size group.
  10. Some of the highlights... The Frames - Cork Marquee The Hold Steady - Colours Hoxton Mary Wallopers - Exeter Phoenix John - Exeter Cavern The Hu - West Holts Glen Hansard - Cork City Hall Bruce Springsteen - Hyde Park Sleater-Kinney / Mhaol - Roundhouse
  11. The last couple of years I've caught the bus at 8-8:30 on the Monday morning into Glastonbury town, had a cafe breakfast, and caught the bus across to Taunton. I'm not sure I'd do it after a mud year, but it's proved a nice gentle adjustment back to the outside world, and the bus has been quiet. Far preferable to the cattle pens at Castle Cary.
  12. That one is definitely reissue of the year! The new mix is stunning. It's great to have two very different sounding versions of this album. The other reissue I bought this year was the Drive-by Truckers remixed version of The Dirty South, which added 3 tracks cut from the original list and a couple of different vocal takes where they weren't happy with the originals. Also, today, I heard Ratboys' album The Window for the first time. That is magnificent. Going to check out Wednesday at some point this evening too as keep seeing them mentioned.
  13. Ideally this country would grow up, get rid of the monarchy and all the empire related awards nonsense that comes with it, to be replaced by some new system to recognise the efforts of individuals etc. Until then, congratulations Mr Eavis.
  14. Numbered but not in any order, just so I didn't pick too many! 1. Lisa O'Neill - All Of This Is Chance 2. Lankum - False Lankum 3. boygenius - the record 4. Glen Hansard - All That's East Is West Of Me Now 5. The Hold Steady - The Price Of Progress 6. Jess Williamson - Time Ain't Accidental 7. Margo Price - Strays 8. Obey Robots - One In A Thousand 9. Cindy - Why Not Now 10. Emily Breeze - Rapture 11. Coach Party - Killjoy 12. Therapy? - Hard Cold Fire 13. The Reds, Pinks, and Purples - The Town That Cursed Your Name 14. Eyelids - A Colossal Waste Of Light 15. Hiss Golden Messenger - Jump For Joy

Just imagine the scene, close to the end of the main set, house lights up, and the full and closed off Pyramid field all throws paper confetti at the right moment during Hoodrat... Is it Weekender time yet?
  16. That was brilliant, thanks for sharing!
  17. Mike Scott has another which was played live but not recorded (as far as I know). I have it somewhere on a bootleg from a gig in Shepton Mallet. https://www.lyricsfreak.com/w/waterboys/going+back+to+glasters_20145390.html
  18. Probably a few hundred thousand reasons why they'd not headline.

Yeah, had the same experience with One at the o2 show I saw (30 Oct), in fact, the whole encore was pretty anti-climactic (City Of Blinding Lights, Beautiful Day and One). At Amsterdam, in 2017, One was the queue to start making my way back through the crowd to the top of the steps out, glad I waited as they finished on I Will Follow. Moment Of Surrender at Glasto could have been good, it worked well after Ultraviolet and With Or Without You during 360. I wonder if they skipped something that was planned? They clearly realised they had more time than was expected, hence Out Of Control, which was cool but nobody knew it.
  21. Had no idea he was big enough to play a stadium the size of Thomond Park in Limerick.
  22. Eden, Cardiff, Manchester, CPB over 4 nights IIRC.

    The Killers

I've still not seen them. At £105 that will not change.
  24. The rumoured UK dates are 25 June Manchester and London on 28/29 June.
