It clearly depends on your opinion because from where i'm sitting you're so wrong. The newest Family Guy was boring and weird. The last 3 series have been so shit, in my opinion, i don't even know what to say about them.

I keep watching it because i want it to be good again but they've totally lost it. American Dad has been better for at least a few years now and even at South Parks most convoluted it's a lot better than Family Guy.

The latest South Parks have been a return to form. The Snookie character had me in stitches - it's been a while since they have royally ripped the piss out of someone famous with a properly offensive and ridiculous caracature of them.

I don't know what it is with Family Guy, but I think the constant Star Wars, general movie references and musical moments haven't done it any favours. I'm not saying it's crap. At it's worst Family Guy is just entertaining. I guess I was just used to laughing out loud at it for so long, maybe it's become so familiar that it's now like The Simpsons - a little bit predictable. You know, Peter is retarded, Brian despite being a dog is the voice of reason but pretentious, Quagmire is horny, Joe is a disabled jock cop, Meg is lame, Chris is a loser, Cleveland is black, Stewie is gay and sarcastic. Homer is retarded, Marge is naggy and mumsy, Lisa is brainy and annoying, Bart is stupid and cheeky etc etc.

I guess that's maybe why South Park stays fresh - it keeps the main characters quite grounded (Stan and Kyle) while Cartman is like a chameleon character who seems to be able to do new things every episode (same goes for Butters and is probably why he's so popular). Often you find Stan and Kyle grounding each episode with their attitudes (both are fairly liberal, and both generally don't do anything properly twatty beyond peer pressure) while Cartman changes and morphs depending on the subject of that week. Also, South Park has much better cartoon slapstick (the bit where Cartman drives his Nascar into the walls and ends up going backwards had me in tears, I'm laughing now just thinking about it).

This doesn't really happen in Family Guy or Simpsons, every character has a defined role. Maybe that's it, I dunno. I'm just trying to figure out why I like South Park the most and why I end up laughing at it while Simpsons and family Guy, while always entertaining, generally only make me smile.

Clearly. I'm fairly sure that in my opinion Family Guy has produced better episodes in last few years than South Park. South Park has on occasion disappeared in to the realms of social commentary to the detriment of actually being funny for 20 minutes - the recession episode for example. Family Guy has produced some crap, but you're pretty much guarenteed to laugh at something stupid at some point.

To be fair to South Park, looking at the episode list I'm basing this more on previous seasons but it still stands - 'Dances with Smurfs'? 'The Coon'? 'Sexual Healing'? And pretty much all of season 12. Not what it used to be.

Oh, and it turns out the new season of Family Guy started a few weeks ago!

f**k buttscrather I watched that and thought it was ok and then yawned, dont know why people kept screaming it out in campsites. The only time Family Guy has made me laugh hard was when the Peter was feeding the people on TV and I watched a repeat of it years later and it didn't make me laugh but I can watch repeats of South Park 10 years later and still laugh.
