I think youre being a bit harsh to franz ferdinand. They have there audience and pearl jam has theirs. Franz ferdinand are a very visual band, they create images, colours and texture musicly and lyricly. Pearl jam are storytellers with a stuning ability to rock. Of course there is no doubt who is better, but franz are a unique modern band

Franz Ferdinand are nowhere near good enough to be headlining a day at the Reading Festival.

They are symptomatic of the poor state of music in this day and age.

I just didn't see the need for a pointless dig? Especially as it was an interesting, and as pointed out a passionate, conversation. Just reminds of the kids at school who would make fun of anything they didin't like.

Its easy to rip them now with an average second album, and 100's of copycats, but in 2004 there wasn't a band like them.

I dont know how but somehow I just knew tool would be brought into this argument. Must be physic . But anyway tool are a band that lack any inspiration, they are 100% average. I think the fact that hmv describes the album as ' a 77-minute, 11-song genius prog-metal odyssey' sums up why there so boring. they make me want to go to sleep only to wake me up again as Im begining to go, with a haze of shouts and screams

For inspiration, check out 'Forty Six & 2'...it's about evolution and Jungian theory...'Opiate' is about organised religion, 'Lateralus' focuses on transcendence. There's the wonderful time signature experimentation too.
