Blisterpack
Just looking at this poster and was reminded just how brilliant the whole On-U-Sound thing was in the late 80’s /early 90’s. Gary Clail fourth down - he also supported Stone Roses at Spike Island round then - and Tackhead in a similar spot. Those Tackhead singles featuring Clail, (Hard Left, Reality and Mind at the End of the Tether) are still mind-blowing. I think Adrian Sherwood has played the Farm in more recent times and obviously we had Mark Stewart with The Pop Group a few years ago, but I think they are generally undervalued, especially given they are all still based in Bristol. Clail has been busy with new stuff recently - new album ‘Violence’ is brilliant - after taking years out to work with ex offenders and the homeless, and I would love to see him somewhere.
Chas
There was a big 40th anniversary show at the O2 Forum last year. Here are a couple of live recordings: Adrian, Skip & Ghetto Priest all live down in Ramsgate these days. They've released two great Horace Andy albums recently as well as Dub No Frontiers on Realworld. All three are worth a listen. On U Sound were far better than The Stone Roses at Spike Island, Tackhead - loudest band I've ever heard live.
