Thanks a lot for the heads up, still got a uk address so I'd be fine. My American friend wanted to come, doesn't have the right to work in the UK though..will that be an issue then?

My team at Latitude have to provide a copy of there passport to prove they are entitled to work in the UK but I'm not sure if this is the same for everyone or just a FR thing...

Definitely worth asking the question tho!

Pretty sure it's the same for Oxfam - you must already have the right to work in the UK, and they're unable to sponsor you for the purposes of a visa application.

You will find that everyone who hires Volunteers will be using the same rules apart from a few small stall holders who are not aware about the rules

this all came about a few years ago when the UK Border Agency { well that is what they were called then - new name this week is UK Visas and Immigration until they think up a better name } wrote to all the major players and spelled out the rules.

Now for most of us it does not matter but if you are from outside the EU things get very complicated very quickly.

its got bugger all to do with a ' holiday visa ' or whatever - the Government demand a person has a Work Visa even although ' no actual money is involved '

I have to sign a legal declaration as a WBC Organiser that I have inspected

everyone works status and the WBC will also Double check up on anyone they have never met before.

I do recall at Reading a few years ago the WBC was very nervous because they were told the ' UK Border Agency ' was going to inspect the records of Festival Republic and the WBC.

On my team I have a Icelandic person and there was big concerns because Iceland
is not in the EU { but part of what is called  European Economic Area } - anyway seeing he is a Consultant for Frontex { which is now called 'European Border and Coast Guard Agency' } I knew he would not be a problem.

All the red tape has to be sorted out in advance and I know that some Organisations will think twice before giving a place to anyone outside the EU as they are worried they end up being fined.

This Is How Hotbox Spells It Out

To undertake unpaid voluntary work, as well as paid work in the UK, you have to have the right to work either through your citizenship or a work visa. Under the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act of 2006 Hotbox Events is required to check your right to work before we can allow you to start working on the festival site.

This means that before you can start working with us, you will need to produce documentation to prove you have this right. If you do not produce this documentation, we cannot let you work or volunteer with us.

The list of valid proof of right to work is produced by the UK Border Agency not by Hotbox Events and these are the ONLY documents that will be accepted by Hotbox Events.

VERY IMPORTANT - We need to see the original documents which means you need to bring them to the festival site.
We also need to hold a copy of the documents as detailed below. To expedite the sign-in process onsite and if you are able please scan your documents and upload via the Your Files section of your PAAM profile.
NB: We will still need to see the original documents if you upload copies pre-event.

What will we accept as proof?

The easiest document to bring is either a UK or European Economic Area/Swiss passport or a non UK/EEA passport with a valid visa showing your right to work in the UK.
If you do not have a passport, we can accept a long form* birth certificate AND one of the following:
Your National Insurance (NI) card.
An official document from a previous employer clearly showing your name and NI number.
An official document issued by a government agency (e.g. HM Revenue and Customs, Department for Work and Pensions, or the Social Security Agency in Northern Ireland) clearly showing your name and NI number e.g. the letter now sent in place of an NI card.
*a long form birth certificate includes your parents details.
A UK Driving Licence IS NOT valid as proof even in combination with a birth certificate or NI card.
All documents which contain an expiry date must be current (except those showing that the holder is a British citizen, a citizen of the UK and Colonies having the right of abode, a national of an European Economic Area (EEA) country or Switzerland or their family members with permanent residence).

I was one of the lucky ones to secure a ticket last week but that is my back up as I have had my application to join FMS accepted so I am now part of the charity so to speak. I may be part of the charity but I have to apply to go to Glastonbury as well as lots of other festivals and events that they cover each year.
Thought it was about time to give something back to the festival as well as seeing it from a completely different perspective.
I am not a medical professional but just fortunate to be in a job that has trained me to a high enough level to qualify as an Event First Aid Responder.
My GF thinks I am bonkers for wanting to do it this way but at least she will get some peace from me whilst I will be working should I be lucky enough to get a place. Also my ticket will be going back into the pot come resale day.

You will have a great time working for FMS. I have done the last 7 Glastonburys for them. Lovely volunteers to work with.
