mkrve
hahaha not liking any of the line-up is impossible i think. been to festivals (LowLands) before which had line-ups that didn't have a lot of big head liners. But just walking around the festival i ran into lots of acts i never heard of or didn't have that great expectations, that turned out to be so much fun. Sure I hope there will be some more good head liners. But I'm not worried. There will be some more great acts. And like you guys already said... it's going to be brilliant anyway :-) see you guys over there!

Diocane
Sure it'll be fun. Hope I'll get drunk listening to the Libertines. Never saw them live, but I heard they "destroyed" Hyde Park last year.. People go crazy at their shows. And I'm afraid that this will be one of the last chances to see them. Pete usually does 3 months of shows and then 3 years of rehab

Noeliam
I hope both will come. But Limp Bizkit would be a sub right?
Diocane
Yep, I suppose. But I think it depends on how many proper headliners they can get.

Noeliam
As doobie said, there's a Camp Unknown for people going alone even if you're in the alternativa you can still join them (i won't be far with some friends) for activities/concerts
Diocane
Nothing new from pukkelpop.. Linkin park headlining august 20, Bastille August 21 (shocked), third headliner tba. Lower acts are very similar to other festivals (offspring, limp bizkit, Interpol, Ellie goulding, FFS, major lazer ecc..). They also have rudimental, George Ezra, and some other quite known pop artist

WanderlustTime
Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are super excited about possibly going to Sziget this year. We have a few questions if anyone cares to answer... 1. Is anyone else here planning on going to Ozora as well? 2. What day can you actually enter the festival? I assume the 10th but I got confused after reading conflicting info. 3. Will we see any of our trippy friends there? I read that it's more of a drinking festival than a tripper festival, but I'd just like to confirm that. 4. What is the situation with safe deposits/luggage holding? Some wording makes it sound like there are free safes, but online it says €25. How secure are the lockers? I don't mind paying as long as no one breaks into it. I think that's it for now...getting super excited! I'd love to see Tame Impala added to the line up, but honestly the festival looks so cool by itself, I don't even care who plays! weird science
It's still a disappointing line-up. There's no new talents, no big names except Robbie, not just a bloody rock name. Most of the acts are electronic stuff. I wouldn't pay if I'd known there'll be only Interpol and Foals as decent names. 50 names and bullshit, like last year at Benicassim. We have a few questions if anyone cares to answer... 1. Is anyone else here planning on going to Ozora as well? nop sorry 2. What day can you actually enter the festival? I assume the 10th but I got confused after reading conflicting info. You can enter starting friday the 7th with a moving-in ticket (30 euros, I personally arrive the saturday). That way you can get a nice camping spot and visit Budapest. 3. Will we see any of our trippy friends there? I read that it's more of a drinking festival than a tripper festival, but I'd just like to confirm that. I saw some people take hard drugs, but there's not really overdose. Most of the people are drinking and smoking green. 4. What is the situation with safe deposits/luggage holding? Some wording makes it sound like there are free safes, but online it says €25. How secure are the lockers? I don't mind paying as long as no one breaks into it. I'm also paying a locker. Last year they stole my phone so I won't do the same mistake. I'm gonna put my passport/money/electronic devices there. There are cameras where the lockers are so I guess it's pretty secure. I think that's it for now...getting super excited! I'd love to see Tame Impala added to the line up, but honestly the festival looks so cool by itself, I don't even care who plays! That's the right mind! But don't count too much on Tame Impala they are in the US during that period :/ but it's gonna be amazing anyway!

Future Islands are excellent. But I see your point, the Sziget lineup has been a bone of contention for a few for a number of years now. 2012/3 were largely desperately poor lineups, the organisers even put a post on Facebook acknowledging that, along with a list of bands they tried to get to play. But, with the exception of Primavera, most of the lineups are horrendous this year. I have a Rock Werchter ticket which I'm selling because the lineup is so poor, especially compared to this year. Sziget have done alright considering how bad it could've been, although I admit there is no excuse for closing the festival with a DJ who I don't think has even had an album out. But that's a lot of big festivals for you these days. DJ and pop singer songwriters. At least it's not Ed Sheeran I suppose.

edfirth
You can't compare Werchter to Sziget. They're completely different festivals. I've been to Werchter four times. It's all about the bands and nothing more. It's great for ticking bands off your bucket list (in four years there I saw Coldplay, Oasis, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers x2, Metallica, Pearl Jam x2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, Kings of Leon x2, Radiohead, The Cure etc etc etc) but there's nothing else going on there. You have a ticket for one campsite only so you can't even socialise with people at night if you meet them during the day (they do it to prevent theft as far as I can tell but I still had all the money stolen from my wallet during the night), and after the bands finish at midnightish that's it really. The crowd is different too. A lot of the Belgians (particularly the older ones) just drink until they drop and the average age is much higher because I get the idea that there's a tradition of just buying a Werchter ticket every year regardless of the line up, because you know it's going to be huge. Sziget is more of a Utopia type situation, though I have to be honest as say that I didn't come across or see illegals at any point during my time at Sziget. Not even green. I didn't camp though and I assume that's where people were smoking. It's totally open and the music goes on for longer and there's as much a focus on what happens after the main stage finishes than before it. During the day at points it seemed like no one was about (I have no idea where they all were, probably smoking at their tents!) and then everyone just appeared in time for the headliners and partied through the night. There's a lot to do, which is just as well given how long the festival goes on for, and there were little pockets that I really enjoyed visiting for 30 minutes or so each day (like the wine village or the World stage). You pay the same for a smaller line up because there are at least twice as many acts at Sziget than at Werchter, and although in some cases it feels like quantity over quality, overall I'd much rather go to Sziget than Werchter (but then it's easy to say that when your bucket list has been 95% ticked). It's properly international too, I've never been to a festival with so many nationalities present and so few from the country it's set in. It gives the festival a really cool atmosphere. If there was a negative at Sziget it was that because the festival goes on for so long, the line up is stretched out and there were hours, or even full days, where there was nothing I wanted to watch on. The positive from that point of view is that you're forced to see acts you wouldn't normally see who surprise you (Franz Ferdinand being a big one for me), but the negative is that you end up seeing a lot of below average music over the weekend. Line ups are also about personal taste. Sziget is really set up well for me this year so far. My favourite DJ is playing (Dixon) as well as Marcel Dettmann, Michael Mayer and Gui Borrato, three acts who I'm interested in but not enough to pay to go and see them at their own show, which is the point of festivals really. Vitalic I've wanted to see for ages, I've never seen Foals who also fit in to that 'I quite like a few of their tracks but wouldn't pay to see them' slot, Interpol are one of my favourite bands so I'm more than happy with their inclusion, Alt-J and Maccabees are both decent live so I'm happy to see them and Jaguar Skills and High Contrast are good too. That's a pretty decent start and I reckon there's about the same amount of mid-to-bigger acts to come, if not a bit more than that. P.S. Tame Impala could definitely play Sziget. They're in Europe the week after and the US the week before. Nothing is announced for the week of Sziget yet. I'm personally hoping for them, Pond (Pond are actually way better live than Tame Impala) and War on Drugs which added to Interpol would make me beyond happy with the guitar music on offer. ilbeyene
Great review, edfirth. That's what all of my friends that have been to both Sziget and Werchter say: at Werchter great concerts but nothing else, at Sziget great mood and best possible vacation. And having been to Pukkelpop, where big names are not comparable to Werchter but the mid and undercards are so much better (but in 2013 there were Eminem, Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, Neil Young unfortunately cancelled few days before the festival, so great headliners too) I can say exactly the same. Belgians festival are great for music, but if you're looking for something more they're not comparable to Sziget. Noeliam
I'm sure we all agree on that On Kensington's FB page it says that they are playing the 11th, and they are also playing the "Sziget warm-up party" sunday 9th. What is it?
