That's a good point. However, my understanding of the green ethos heralded at the Glastonbury festival is that we should all be making strides to be green no matter how minimal those strides are individually, because as a collective they become more tangible.

The biggest stride, of course, would be none of us going and there being no festival at all. That, and us all killing ourselves. Having a festival is always going to be less green than not having one, and from the response given (and god knows why they feel the need to respond to every query in such minute detail) it seems like it's better to have a few lights on in this case, to help manage power across the festival.

Well, as they say it's the impression given off by the lights being on all day that's the most important thing here. Messages do matter. If they really wanted to lower the power consumption, then not adding a couple of new stages every year would probably make much more difference!

I'm not really sure what you are trying to say here? I have one theory but it's a little juvenile, so I have dismissed it.

You are Sherlock Holmes and I claim my £10.

Probably because they believe in accountability.

it seems like it's better to have a few lights on in this case, to help manage power across the festival.

That would appear to be the case, but without having asked GFL some people who expressed an interest in this area wouldn't have had a conclusion to their queries.

It would be interesting to see an analysis of this one (if it's even possible). Imagine all 200,000 people driving to work each day, watching TV for 4 hours in the evening, using computers at work all day. I wonder if the carbon footprint really is that different.

I bet it is. Plenty of driving going on to set up the festival, never mind the vast distances to travel to and from the festival.

Still, that's just me 'reckoning'. I too would be very interested to see the numbers.
