We were camped in Woodsies and didn't see the compost toilets cleaned from Wednesday until Saturday. They were actually taped off and condemned at one point, with one clueless steward saying they were "broken" and another steward outright refusing the report them in as 'in need of a clean'. I was walking past them friday night and saw a huge cake of shit on the toilet seat with a Tuborg cup decorating it, walked past the others and they were in similar condition; a steward laughed and said "just don't look" and I said to him I've been looking at the same shit since wednesday so it won't make a difference now.

Yes. I was having a go. As were lots of people.

Generally there were a real lack of toilets onsite this year. I remember walking around on Thursday morning to try and find a good ol' portaloo but there were none; everything was a long drop or compost toilet and there really weren't a lot of them.

The long drops were fine, but I did investigate the compost bogs on Friday lunchtime and they were all overflowing. I think the organisers fucked up there; there's no need for them to wind up in that state.

The bins next to toilets in bushy werent emptied all weekend. Disgusting. Huge piles of rubbish.

I think they will learn from the compost toilets as this was their first year

What, so the wheelie bins underneath stopped moving by themselves?

Half of the doors broke off in the Woodsies compost toilets which obviously is no issue if you are a male and need a piss but if you are female or need a number 2 then it's a bit of an issue. Also a distinct lack of hand sanitiser left in the wooden thing which fell out of the mud on day 1. It was better and cleaner last year with the portaloos across the path.

During his Q&A at the Speaker's Forum, Michael Eavis referenced problems with some compost toilets on site, suggesting that unlike long drops they need electricity to do something, and that the wet weather had played havoc with this aspect...he said his engineers had told them to move to all "Mark 3 long drops" in future, and abandon the compost toilets.

Just hypothesising, but perhaps the Woodsies / Lower Mead ones could be the ones where the problem hit?

At Bestival last year, a door fell off one of the compost bogs WHILE A GUY WAS TAKING A DUMP. He looked mortified, but just had to finish what he was in the middle of, and got a round of applause for not freaking out when he was done.

Loads of the locks on the longdrops were broken by the end. And about 3 times there was a full on turd on the toilet seat for the longdrop, absolutely vile.

No one was using the compost anyway. Plus there was never any cups readily available whenever I went to use one. Bring back the portaloos next year!

The toilets on the Silver Hayes side of Pylon (which were there last year) were gone, despite what the map said. Meant that the other block had long queues from taking up the slack. Shame, as the compost loos worked really well last year.
